Of Mice and Men was published in 1937 during a time of bi-racism between the caucasians and the african americans, and the apathetic Great Depression, which may have served as inspiration. In the novel two opposites attract, a gargantuan but mentally challenged man by the name of Lennie, and a small, nimble, and intelligent man named George. Suffering from a mental illness Lennie gets into trouble when he 's alone, but George always saves him, George knows Lennie doesn 't do anything, “out of meanness” as he says. While reading this book a few things were noticed like the number of characters who were experiencing loneliness. Although none of the characters really know each other they still have one thing in common and that’s their need of companionship. In my essay I’ll be explaining how each one needs a companion. The characters Lennie, Curley’s wife, and Crooks all exemplify loneliness and isolation.

Lennie had peacefully and happily died, which wouldn’t had been his experience if he had been found by Curley first. Shalika Devireddy Of Mice and Men is a story of two completely different guys who travel together from ranch to ranch and have a strong bond of friendship. Throughout this story, their friendship and loyalty to each other is tested in the most drastic ways. In "Of Mice and Men" ,Steinbeck uses the bond of friendship between Lennie and George ,the two main characters, to demonstrate how their unique history binds them, how much they depend on each other, and how they trust each other. Every friendship has an unique history that binds them.
Steinbeck portrays friendship as a good thing to life in Of Mice and Men, but it won’t always end up being a cohesive unit the majority of the time. Through George and Lennie, we are able to see how he believes friendship is an important part of our everyday lives. Without friendship, we would have a void in our life, that couldn’t be filled by anything else. During the Great Depression, it was someone to turn to, if you were going through a rough time.

Loneliness and isolation is an ongoing theme throughout the novel Of Mice and Men, experienced by several characters to different degrees. Some characters are more isolated and lonely than others, yet every character in the story goes through this theme during one point in the story. There are various reasons why each character is lonely or isolated. In general, all the ranch workers feel some sort of loneliness because they move alone from ranch to ranch and do not have real connections with others, Curley’s wife experiences this theme because she is the only woman on the ranch and nobody wants to interact with her because Curley is very protective and hostile of her. Thirdly, Candy struggles through being lonely and isolated after Carlson shot his dog and because Candy does not work with the others since he is a swamper.
Friendship for me is a type of bond that two people have, they understand one another, listen to each other, and they help each other to almost everything. Friendship is almost like a type of relationship as if you would consider them as a brother or sister. Some friendships last long and others just don't last that long but if you and a friend of yours solve your problems and are in good conditions then that is how you get a good friendship relationship. Forgiveness is the answer for me. A novella that can relate to friendship would be Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck.
