George Washington Character Traits

George had a rough childhood. He was born into slavery in Missouri and his mother was kidnapped by slave raiders. Sick and orphaned George was raised by the Carvers. Later, George was able to overcome his challenges and graduated college with a degree in botany and agriculture and also studied agricultural chemistry. George Washington Carver contributed to the world by improving health and agricultural outputs also he founded an industrial research laboratory.

George Washington, arguably the most iconic president in world history, was a exemplary leader of a country during its infancy. The United States of America can thank George Washington for its formation into a global superpower in economy, democracy, and justice. Moreover, Washington was an incredible leader. The way he led with authority, yet maintained peace to avoid leading the country to dictatorship was one of several qualities that made him such a splendid leader. Additionally, our first president led with a great amount of humbleness.

George Washington had tremendous leadership abilities. I think George Washington had tremendous abilities because, he was confident that his army of soldiers could defeat the Hessians in the Revolutionary war. Even though they were young kids and the Hessians were believed to be genuinely good when it comes to battle. Many people including General Gates were doubting his army. Another reason why I think George Washington had tremendous abilities in leadership is because, he is a proud man.

George Washington George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland Virginia. His family first migrated to America when his great grandfather John Washington emigrated from England to Virginia in 1657. His parent's names were Mary and Augustine Washington, he had 6 brothers and 3 sisters. His mother, Mary Ball, brought several properties to the marriage as her marriage settlement. In 1738, when George was six, his family moved from one of their plantations on the Potomac River to a farm on the Rappahannock River.

Washington was born in Virginia in 1856, as a slave. From a very young age, Washington knew that education was crucial. He was an excellent student, and after completing his own education, he decided to become a teacher, in order to try and educate others. He became the head of a vocational school in Alabama, where is was his mission to educate other African-American’s in the areas of “moral instruction” and give them “practical work skills”. Washington became very well-liked by not only other African-Americans, but also by some white southerners.

Shortly after, he began making whiskey, something like what we would call moonshine today. Slavery is a big thing that we wonder about presidents, Washington saw nothing morally wrong with slaves and inherited eleven of his own slaves when his father passed away. When he wedded the slave doubled due to the “dower slaves” that Martha brought to the marriage. Washington made attempts to all of his slaves, but he couldn't free the “dower slaves” because they were not his property.

Washington was homeschooled and studied with a church sexton and later a schoolmaster in English, math, geography and Latin. But most of his knowledge he would put to use was through his acquaintance with Backwoodsmen and the plantation foremen. George Washington’s father died when he was 11 and he became the ward of his half-brother, Lawrence, who gave him a good upbringing. Lawrence inherited the family's Little Hunting Creek Plantation and married Anne Fairfax, the daughter of Colonel William Fairfax, patriarch of the Fairfax family.

Throughout the many periods of history, there have been many great leaders in the United States, such as the presidents and many reformers of movements. These powerful and courageous people led to many changes within the nation that better the country. Great men exist regardless of the time period or region they live in, but history tends to only recognize them and highlight their contributions to society during a time of crisis. However, great men begin as regular men, but they must work their way through a social status rank in order to be deemed as credible. One of the most widely known leaders of the United States is the first president, George Washington who served from 1789 to 1797.

For it was Washington who nurtured the country, just like the crops on his plantation. The early years of Washington are a mystery. However, many stories are told about his honesty, strength, and diligence even in George’s youth. Washington’s father, Augustine, was a successful planter and court justice.

“He was involved twice in Germantown 's contribution to American history” (George Washington, 2013). Washington stopped the decimation of the nation’s capital by coming up with a permanent place safe from attacks, favoritism, and disease. “One challenge came from the national debt. Fighting and for and gaining independence did not come cheap and the amount of debt that the new nation faced was staggering” (George Washington, 2013). He faced many challenges during his presidency from paying back war debts.

Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.

By the age of 22 he owned a total of 36 slaves. Washington held in bondage over 300 slaves , who, after his death (except for one) received their freedom only after his wife, Martha , had died. During the early 1766’s Washington veered away from the staple crop system based on tobacco production, and turned to cultivating cereal grains . In an attempt to achieve a self-sufficient plantation , and pay of his debts. “ Washington took a series of bold measures to stem the tide of debt and place his plantation of a firmer financial footing.”

Washington had a black mother and a white father. He did not know for sure who his father was, but he knew that he was a white man. Unlike some other slaves who had their mothers taken away at an early age, his mother was allowed to stay with him. He had a brother and a sister who also stayed with him and his mother.

What’s worse is that he didn’t even free them after his death. In spite of all his bravado of being against slavery, he followed the system for economic and social purposes. All of these points go against what Jefferson said he is against/for, and this is why many historians found him to be an enigma. Regardless of his obvious weak point to slavery, Jefferson is a good figurehead for
