A hero can be classified by many things. A hero can be superman, a police officer, and even your mom, but what makes a hero? Is it someone who can fly or shoot laser beams from their eyes or someone who saves a baby from a burning building? I’ll admit some of these characteristics are far-fetched since I don’t know anyone who can fly or randomly saves babies on a normal day. All heroes, including super ones, all have something in common, they 're admired for their courage or an outstanding thing they’ve done. That’s what makes a hero a role model to others and their courage most likely leads to heroic deeds whether big or small. The question here is whether Gilgamesh is considered to be a hero. A person who embodies all the qualities of a hero would be Rosa Parks. She showed courage which led to heroic deeds and became a female role model for all. Rosa Park or “the first lady of civil rights” was an African-American woman who became known as a hero the day of December 1st, 1955 when she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. This started a civil rights movement that would change segregation of black people. Rosa Parks was arrested after she refused to give up her seat, this was all due because of the color of her skin. From that day on Rosa Parks was ready to end racial segregation, because of this choice she lost her job and received death threats for many years. What came from, it was the first glimpse of change. Rosa Park 's refusal sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott which was a protest against the separation of black and white people on public transportation in Montgomery, Alabama. Because of the boycott and the social protests Montgomery removed the law of racial segregation on buses and public transportation. Which, was a small step to equality. Why did this action cause a movement of civil rights and cause Rosa Parks to go to jail for it? At the time in Montgomery and elsewhere all public transportation were split into separate places for white and black people to sit. If a bus was filled and there were no places for white passengers on the bus to sit, then bus driver would ask the black passengers to give up their seats. By one person standing up for their rights and what they believe in caused a movement for change. Rosa Parks showed the qualities of a hero and embodied them, unlike Gilgamesh. She showed courage in refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, which led to her arrest and not only the loss of her job but also her husband 's. She even received death threats for years. Because of this courage, it led to heroic deeds, the deed of hoping to end racial segregation. Even if it did happen in the long run,
Who are American heroes? People have many perceptions of heroes such as a person seen on T.V. with powers, but that is not what a hero is. A hero is someone that makes a change makes the world a better place. In unit four, there were many American heroes like Roosevelt and Washington. Roosevelt was a hero because she had guided a country suffering through hard times.
Citizens of Montgomery, Alabama were fuelled with intention to fight oppression and start a boycott against desegregation. In order for the boycott to make a difference, African Americans chose to walk to work or travel by taxi, no matter what physical health condition they were in. Throughout the boycott the NAACP consistently challenged the courts because of complete desegregation. However, before this problem occurred, Rosa Parks was arrested in Alabama for boycotting the city bus rules, which caused an outcry to end discrimination against African Americans and their rights. “The Supreme Court's decision laid the legal groundwork for a more concerted nationwide effort to eliminate racial barriers in other aspects of life.
Rosa Parks refusing to give her seat on a bus to a white person was a clear expression of individualism. By refusing to comply with unjust laws that caused segregation and discrimination among people, Parks was standing up for her own rights and dignity as an individual. She was not willing to accept the status quo and instead chose to challenge the system. Parks' actions demonstrated the power of the individual to cause change by inspiring others to do the same. Her decision to take a stand was not just a personal choice; it was inspired by a movement and made people consider change in the need for civil rights and equality in America.
But, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, there is no clear hero. This subject is debatable. But, a hero as described in the Hero’s Journey is someone who saves the day against a supernatural challenge, treats his people nicely, and doesn’t come back empty handed. A hero’s characteristics are perceived by the people around him. Even though Gilgamesh is the main character, his treatment of people was unacceptable and made his people hate him.
A modern hero is someone of supernatural ability's of someone with great intelligence. In this epic Gilgamesh shows more of what it takes to be a epic hero. A epic hero is of nobility, integrity, strength, wisdom and many other great quality's. One of the great quality's that make Gilgamesh a epic hero is his willingness to put others before himself. He care more about others then himself and this made him a true warrior and not only bond but at mind.
In 1955, there was a very big event that was very crazy, and that changed life for African Americans. An African American seamstress known as Rosa Parks performed a bold action when she chose not to abandon her seat on the bus to a white man who needed it. lead to the black population mobilising to demand equal rights. Although the Montgomery bus boycott was the first mass movement by blacks in America against segregation, the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give her seat on a bus to a white person provoked widespread opposition within Montgomery.
Rosa lived in a time when segregation, and racism were common in America, and she was constantly beset with issues concerning her race. Concerning her response to conflict, Tavaana states, “It was there that Rosa Parks, an African American woman, refused to vacate her seat in the middle of the bus so that a white man could sit in her place. She was arrested for her civil disobedience. Parks' arrest, a coordinated tactic meant to spark a grassroots movement, succeeded in catalyzing the Montgomery bus boycott”. Risking punishment, Rosa Parks chose to be brave, and in doing this, she gained control over an important aspect in her life: her freedom to choose what she needs and wants.
Heros can be anyone and anywhere. They don’t have to be famous to be a hero . For example Rosa Parks wasn't famous at that time she became a hero. She was like an ordinarily lady. The only thing she did to become a hero was do what was good for other and herself.
The author of the Rosa Parks page emphasizes that, “By refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama, city bus in 1955, black seamstress Rosa Parks (1913—2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States” (Rosa Parks). Simply put, Rosa inspired the rest of the African American communities around the United States to protest through boycotts whenever they had the chance to do so. Determined to get the bus segregation law overturned, Parks and her fellow NAACP
Rosa Parks Rosa Parks was a woman with great confidence in what she believed in. She was a Civil Rights Activist who refused to give up her seat on the Alabama bus which started the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott. It helped start a nationwide effort to end segregation of public facilities. Later she received the NAACP’s highest award. As she grew older she received over 10 awards for her great accomplishments When Rosa parks had chronic tonsils all through her childhood.
Gilgamesh is an epic hero because, he part divine, interacts with gods and his story has a series of adventures and superhuman victories. Gilgamesh is a king that shows off his power and enviably shows his weak side in most altercations. Most scholars see him as a historical figure, but I myself think he is definitely an epic hero. He oppresses people who call out to the gods, this is not very heroic, but his other actions will show the truth. Gilgamesh IS an epic hero.
The Montgomery bus boycott was sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was an African American who rode the bus every day. After working all day she tried to ride the bus home. She went to the back of the bus and sat where the blacks were supposed to sit. A white guy got on the bus and tried to get her to move because there were no seats left.
When Rosa Parks got an arrest, it had started a resolution. When Rosa didn't get up from her seat for a white man, the driver called the police and arrested her. So at her court date, the African Americans had started a boycott. The Africans have to seat in the back of the bus in the colored section. Because Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man; she started a revolution and the fight for equal rights for black people.
Rosa Parks is an example of how unfair African Americans were treated in the United States, and her fight in battles such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Civil Rights Movement drove a plethora of others to join her side to change the way “colored people” were seen in America. Even as a child, Rosa Parks was met with memories of prejudices against black people.
A hero exhibits many qualities. Responsibility, bravery, and loyalty are just a few on many qualities that can be found in heroes. But to me, some of the most important qualities a hero needs are recognizing one's flaws and weaknesses, listening to others, and selflessness. With recognizing one's flaws and weaknesses, a person, a hero, can learn what they need to do to better themselves. They know the limit of their abilities and can work to improve themselves.
