Globalization Modern Day
The world has become more interconnected through international trade, politics and communication. In today’s modern world economics, environmental, social issues and problems is no longer limited to the national level because the world is now interdependent. Modern communication technology like radio, television, and telephones are global standard so that information can be dispersed worldwide. For example the cost of long distances phones calls have dropped significantly over the years. International television broadcasters deliver information, opinions and cultural products to some of the most remote areas. The cost of transporting goods has also dropped due to lower fuel prices. With less trade barriers the

By no means am I implying that I agree with slavery but from it the many nations including the U.S. benefited from slavery. Make no mistake about it the U.S. would not be in center stage if it was not for the benefits it reaped from slavery. In fact there are companies in existence today that were the direct beneficiaries of slavery in fact many Ivy League schools including Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth benefited from slavery. The U.S. has benefited from slavery so much that the UN says the U.S. should give African-Americans reparations for their role in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and slavery according to a New York Post article. The UN calls out the U.S. on not confronting its dark past of racial terrorism which has been largely fueled by the recent police killings. Reparations could come in a form of debt relief and a formal apology to the decedents of enslaved people. Reparations have been given to many others groups of people for example the Jews received reparations for the crimes that were committed against them during the Holocaust so it would be only right for African-American also be compensated. Let’s not to forget the aftermath of slavery like segregation, Jim Crow Era, and private prisons for profit where major corporations profited. The people who least likely to benefit from globalization as with slavery are the people on the bottom of the economic toting pole. Loss of domestic jobs, large margin in wealth, and cultures that once blended together are now lost due to globalization. In respect to the environment globalization has been the cause of environmental changes due to an increase of number of factories being built, increase in transportation of goods which contributes to the air and water
The Case for Reparations Ta-Nehisi Coates, a writer for the Atlantic, argues that the idea of reparations ought to have an important place in discussions of race for Americans in his ten-section article, The Case for Reparations. In this article, Coates uses several specific examples to describe how Jim Crow Laws influence black people’s experience in America and analyze black people’s unequal suffering, relating it with American history. And at last, Coates concludes that America should make reparations for African Americans. First of all, Coates shows African Americans’ unequal treatment throughout American history from pass to present.
The slave trade going on during the 15th-19th centuries was mostly that of African slaves being brought over to the Americas by Europeans. But before that happened African citizens led their own part in ensuring enough slaves were available for trade: either by giving up captives of their kingdoms or by even kidnapping African people. Slaves contributed largely to the economy and were seen as replaceable, so they were treated as harshly as masters saw fit. The Atlantic slave trade brought prosperity Europeans and brought harm to many west Africans: Cruelty and slavery bringing about a social change in how Africans were treated in society, depopulation of Africans as a result of the kidnapping and harsh conditions under European slave owners,
Jamey, I like the way you laid out your paper this week. I was astonished that Columbus and the Spaniards perpetrated such cruelty. I do not remember reading or hearing anything about that side of history in any of my classes/courses up to this one. I did not some other research and found slavery has been common in the world long before the United States was formed. The slaves seem to have been obtained like Columbus obtained his slaves.
Slavery was different for America then it was for the rest of the world. For the rest of the world, it wasn’t a race thing they just enslaved the people that they had conquered. They did not care what the color of their skin was it was just about the need for labor. In the article “New of New World Slavery” it explains how slavery was different in America than in Europe. “Slavery in the classical and the early medieval worlds was not based on racial distinctions”.
The guiding principle of reparations must be self-determination in every sphere of life in which Blacks are currently dependent. The money reparations could be used for a variety of different agendas to help improve the lives of African American people. The money could be used to fund African Americans business, by providing small business loans. Money from reparations could be used to help find and cure and treat diseases like Aids and heart disease which claim the lives of thousands of African Americans yearly. Pg.2 Many have argued against giving African Americans reparations, the question why is it necessary, since all of the individuals that were directly affected by slavery are all deceased.
The United States was not the first contender to participate in slave trade, but they most certainly profited from it. In Americas Colonial days which were primarily agricultural, people soon discovered that the land was well suited for growing many different types of crops. Extremely high demand for things such as sugar, tobacco, and cotton, raised a keen eye for opportunity through slave labor. Immigrants instantly started picking up on the rewards and production
Reparations for slavery is an ongoing debate, the idea that descendants of Africans who had been enslaved by the Atlantic Slave Trade should receive a compensatory payment is ridicules to many. Author Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote “The Case for Reparations”, and he argues that the idea of reparations is what is important. Coates begins building his argument with personal facts and reliable sources, overall successfully creating an emotional appeal to his readers. Throughout his article he builds a strong argument arguing that we need to start considering what the nation might owe the African American population after everything that’s been done to them. Throughout his article his attempts to appeal to the readers emotions helps build his argument against reparations.
Reparations for slavery is the idea that some form of compensatory payment should be made to the descendants of Africans who had been enslaved as part of the Atlantic Slave Trade. With that being said, I don’t believe this essay is a case for reparations. Coates never gives the breakdown of what the United States reparation would look like. He never tells us, his readers, how the system would work, or how anyone would actually make the political case for it. This argument is not about reparations for slavery, either.
The Trans-Atlantic slave trade was responsible for the forced migration of between 12 to 15 million people. From Africa to the Western Hemisphere, the slave trade not only displaced millions of Africans to a life of exploitation, but also a painful death. Nobody knew the total number of people who died during slavery in Africa. The Atlantic slave trade Many died a slowly painful death during transportation and imprisonment, or in horrendous conditions during the Middle Passage. The voyage from Africa to the Americas was horrifying and painful for the slaves so many slaves considered suicide as an option.
Did you know that slavery didn’t end in the 19th century? Slavery still goes on to this day, especially in Africa. Today slavery involves forced labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, descent-based slavery, child slavery, and marriage. Forced labour is when a person is forced to do something against their will and being threatened or punished to do it (“What Is Modern Slavery?”). Unlike slavery in the 19th century where people used to get enslaved base off the color of their skin, with modern slavery it does not matter.
Are reparations a just way to manage a multicultural society? The purpose of reparations is to compensate for the harm that blacks have experienced throughout history. For what blacks have gone through, reparations don 't come close to compensating for the history of abuses and suffering that blacks have had to face by the US government. For what blacks have gone through; cannot be simply written off with a check.
The Trans-Atlantic slave trade impacted and changed the world by misplacing and separating thousands of individuals from their families and homes. Thousands of people lost their lives when they were abducted and forced into slavery. Many did not survive the ship rides to the Americas. Many were murdered and tortured. Some were thrown of boats and died from diseases caught on the ship.
Strobl and Kohler the author of “Phenomenon of Globalization”, explains that globalization is a phenomenon of increasing worldwide interactivities, interconnection, interdependencies, economic, political, and social integration. According to Henretta, Edwards, and Self the author of “America: A Concise History”, the globalization occur because of the rapid spread of capitalism around the world, huge increases in global trade and commerce, and a diffusion of communications technology, including the Internet, that linked the world’s people to one another in ways unimaginable a generation earlier. The globalization impacted the different parts of the world in so many ways.
Activists have pointed out that globalization has led to an increase in the consumption of products, which has impacted the ecological cycle. Increased consumption leads to an increase in the production of goods, which in turn puts stress on the environment. Globalization has also led to an increase in the transportation of raw materials and food from one place to another. Earlier, people used to consume locally-grown food, but with globalization, people consume products that have been developed in foreign countries. The amount of fuel that is consumed in transporting these products has led to an increase in the pollution levels in the environment.
Introduction Nowadays people can communicate easily. They can share their ideas, their cultures even with people who are not in their countries. They can trade, transporting products around the world in just a few days. This is a big economy where everything related to each other. This is globalization.
