Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico? No, The United States wasn't justified in going to war with Mexico, because Texas wanted to be annexed by America even though Texas itself was from Mexico.[The Mexican War started in 1846 for many reasons like arguing where the Texas border was and if we could annex Texas to our union, but the very main reason we declared war on Mexico was because on April 24 a party of sixty-three men(Americans) and officers were crossing the Rio Grande when they became encountered with a large group of Mexicans and were attacked. It ended up being about 16 Americans that were killed & wounded. Mexico personally invaded our land and “killed our people on American land”.] *According to Doc B a war
I believe America’s declaration of war on Mexico was a poor choice because although, there were benefits like gaining new land such as California, Texas, and New Mexico, it will strain any future relations with Mexico, money and supplies were wasted, tensions will rise, and most importantly, many lives were lost
Was it right for the US to go into war with Mexico? In 1846 Mexico and the United States went into war for many different reasons. In 1821, Mexico had declared their independence from Spain, this ultimately was probably not the best decision. In 1844, James K. Polk was elected president and was a strong supporter of the Manifest Destiny. The war between the United States and Mexico was unjustified.
The Mexican-American War also provided the United States and Mexico with a new border, and with the new border came a new ethnic group (Wood). In closing, the reference to the Mexican-American War was both factually accurate and fallacious due to
As a Democrat, I believe that President Polk was justified in starting the Mexican-American War. Also, as a strong supporter of Manifest Destiny, also known as Western expansion, I furthermore find reason to believe Polk was justified in initiating war with the Mexican people; being that the Mexican government refused peaceful negotiation. The Americans were the just owners of this western land, and we intended to get it. The Mexican government refused a meeting with our representative to establish the border between Texas and Mexico, along with an offer of 30 million dollars for Western territory. These western territories would provide substantial economic growth for the United States, as well as the obvious: making our nation larger as
The United States war with Mexico was over 160 years ago and still continues to be a divisive and widely debated topic, was it justifiable or not? The first war to be fought mostly on foreign land, was the Mexican-American War that started in 1846. America, lead by President Polk, who believed the U.S had a “manifest destiny”, fought against Mexico who had a weak military and was politically divided. After the war ended in 1848, Mexico lost one-third of its territory which included present-day California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because their goal was to expand slavery, Texas was wrong from the beginning, and the war was based on false pretenses.
US Justified or Not Justified War, bloodshed, trespassing, death, all this was caused by the US going to war for no reason. During this time, many interesting things happened. In 1848 the first baseball diamond was laid out in New York. Another interesting fact was that Mexico was a Catholic country, while America was a mostly Protestant country. This caused a lot of anger among the two countries.
The big debate across the growing United States was the debate of slavery and which states would come in as free or slavery states. The Mexican-American War was a major turning point in this debate because it settled the debate over which states would become free or slavery states. This war lasted a little over a year and 9 months long on the border of the United States and Mexico (Texas and Mexico City). This war would helped settle many disputes, but the main debate it would settle would be the huge slavery debate. The Mexican-American War helped the United States gain new territory is the south-western part of the United States.
[When Texas was annexed, as part of the United States, Mexico and the United States had a disagreement on the border of Texas. The Mexican’s believed that the border was the Nueces River, while America believed that the border was the Rio Grande. This disagreement caused the war with Mexico in 1846. ] The United States was justified to go to war with Mexico.
The war with Mexico had no real reason except for gaining more land and spoils from the people of Mexico Which it marked the first U.S. Armed conflict mostly fought on the foreign soil. I Didn’t Agree with it because it used up resources and Other things on stuff we didn’t need at the time. But it would have been better to just negotiate with the Mexican government to receive Texas and California and the other places instead of fighting a senseless war that lead to many casualties on the Mexican side and some on the United States side. There was many people that agreed with the war and that’s why we had it
This war happened mainly because the U.S. wanted to expand to the Pacific Ocean to fulfill their Manifest Destiny, trying to take away Mexico’s land. Mexico refused to to give land to the U.S. The big question is whether the U.S. was justified in fighting Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Manifest Destiny, too much Mexican interference, and Texas was invaded. One reason the Mexican War was justified was Manifest Destiny. In Document A, John O’Sullivan writes: “Texas is now ours...Let their reception into the “family be frank, kindly, and cheerful….”
Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because they did not respect their laws, culture, and their beliefs. Second of all, this evidence shows that the US was not justified in going to war because it was useless to fight if the Mexicans were going to lose Texas if it was not now, it would be later on. Truly, it was very clear that the Americans won the war because Texas wanted to become part of the US, and the United States wanted to adopt Texas into their union.
God wanted the US to expand. On the contrary, some individuals claim the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico. This point of view makes sense because Texas was Mexico’s to begin with. Despite that, Texas was independent when the US annexed it. Therefore, the united states was justified in going to war with Mexico.
When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.
The United States of America has been through many wars, wars concerning many things such as land oil, pride and respect. However, when the United States went to war with Mexico, it was planned over greed. The Mexican- American war was a war provoked by the United States, in efforts to expand the coasts of the country. Mexico was a small underprivileged country who had previously to the war had already lost part of their country (Texas). Needless to say this war was cut throat and violent, it was however one of the smartest business decisions America has ever made.
Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
