A Golden age occurs when economy is flourishing and there is no violence in the society or war with another region. The Gupta Empire in India and the Roman Empire are important examples of Golden Ages in the history of the world.
From 320-550 CE, The Gupta Empire was an influential time period and showed an excellent example of a Golden Age. Roger Daniel’s points out that there is masses of evidence pre dating the 1920s which can argue that hostility toward immigrants was certainly not a new development in America. This is an equally important factor as it shows there was always a flaw with the ‘melting pot’ theory and hostility was always a major part of America’s history. In the 1860s large numbers of Chinese immigrants flocked to America as cheap labour for projects such as the Union Pacific Railroad and by the 1870s there was over 1000,000 Chinese immigrants in the United States. They were often threatened with racial violence and driven out by WASPs who were threatened by the cheap labour they were willing to offer.

After the Reconstruction of America, we entered into a time referred to as “The Gilded Age”. In this time period, there were a few monumental companies that tried to be the one and only of their type, a few examples would be the US Steel Co., and the Standard Oil Co. These companies were rising up and trying to completely eliminate all other companies that would compete against them, and ultimately, have a monopoly on the product or service. At the time, this wasn’t illegal, but people who were trying to rival these grandiose companies were enraged. Therefore, they started calling them “Robber Barons” referring to the old ranks of nobility, where a baron was an owner of a large segment of land.
The period after Reconstruction, the last few years of the nineteenth century, was known as the “Gilded Age”. The “Gilded Age” was named by Mark Twain in 1873 and was a period of transformation in the economy, government, technology, and social customs of the U.S. The transformation lead to a more modern society which was once small regional communities. Congress continued to reform the west which meant redistributing land that was owned by Indians. This caused great conflict that involved many wars.

Boyce [Document 6], even through the darkest of times Europe seemed to be always advancing and contributing innovative ideas. As trade increased, so did the ideas that generated stronger civilizations throughout Europe. Therefore, this document supports the Golden Age because it states that this period of time “later transmitted to later ages great riches”, this means that the achievements made later influenced future societies in a successful way. Due to these advancements, Europe had developed an edge upon other civilizations.
