Growth Mindset Research Paper

Every student is unique and learns better from different techniques. Some students are visual learners and others are verbal learners. In most cases students prefer certain subject fields over others. For instance, I love learning about math and science but I don’t really care for social studies.

Learning about grit and what a growth mindset is allowed me to realized that grit and a growth mindset work together to support success. Grit is the motivation one possess that will determine whether they win or lose. The grittier a person is the more they learn, get experience and discover their potentials. All of these things define what a growth mindset is. In other words, a growth mindset is discovering your unknown potentials.

Teachers, especially teachers who specialize in the arts, are now having difficulty finding jobs in their field because of the limited spots available. They are being forced to teach subjects that they are not familiar with just to find a job. In the United States, free education is a rare privilege, one that is very under appreciated i might add; every single class skipped is worth a certain amount of money lost, a significant amount of money. Whether a student studies at high school, college, or university, it does not matter – the average cost of a skipped class is in the range between 50$ to 100$ per student. imagine all of the students who find it necessary to skip classes because they don't feel like going, it all adds up. If a student chooses to skip classes regularly, it will cost them, their parents, and the school a lot of money annually, without getting the result: education and knowledge.with the loss of all this revenue they could be possessing,expands the limitations of the budget the school may have, leading to cuts regarding extra curricular activities, which are what make school

Higher Learning to Higher Success Countless students, teachers, and even national leaders have made the point that something has faltered in our education system. The education system in the United States has been picked apart piece by piece and scrutinized against other methods of nations. This process is repeated time and time again, always leading to a horrible truth of the failing system. Although we know something is missing, no action has been taken to mend the broken education system. The basis of this failure is the less-fortunate students who learn at a below-average level.

Tony Robins is correct, in order to be successful in college people must make the choice to go back to school. At least that is what I have taken from the quote. I choose to go back to school in order to further my career in the medical field.

Many people believe that being gritty has a lot to do with intelligence however; the general idea of grit is stamina. How long can a person go with doing something in order to completely master it with no flaws? Well first, Grit is not so much of evidence of intelligence or how smart you are but it’s your effort. “ In one study, Duckworth found that smarter students actually had less grit than their peers who scored lower on and intelligence test” (p.46).

The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.

This puts extra pressure on high schools as these things take time. However, many schools use their time to focus on things such as new technologies for students such as IPads or Computers or sports programs that include new equipment when the equipment they have is already in good condition. Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey is a prime example of someone who embodies the growth mindset, as she has consistently demonstrated a willingness to learn and grow throughout her life and career. From humble beginnings as a young girl growing up in rural Mississippi, Oprah has risen to become one of the most influential and successful women in the world. One key aspect of Oprah's growth mindset is her ability to overcome obstacles and setbacks. Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks throughout her life, Oprah has never let these setbacks hold her back.

This task feels impossible as it is very complex and affects a large population of students in the United States. Closing the gap can’t be done overnight by simply changing one or two things, however, changing the way student success is measured is a necessary first step. Measuring students based on growth will help funding be distributed in a way that will benefit the students that need it most. Using the growth system of measurement also supports the school system in correctly identifying the best methods of teaching for the many different demographics within the United States school system. Using proficiency to measure the success of school causes a large amount of students to be forgotten.

Alliance of Excellent Education took a survey from high school dropouts reported feeling “Alienated at school and that no one noticed if they failed to show up.” Students also complained that,“School did not reflect real-world challenges.” and said they felt “Classes were uninteresting and irrelevant.” So all high school dropouts are not just students not putting in the work because they do not feel like it, but because they feel school is not giving them anything they need or want. Connecting back to our nation, providing what the students want and educating them, if the number of dropouts were cut in half the government would receive as much as forty-five billion dollars in savings and additional revenue.

However, as many schools have experienced, neglecting to provide students with a contextually relevant and interdisciplinary approach to STEM that includes the arts (performing and visual) fails to yield the desired effect on student performance and achievement.
