The second amendment and the input of gun control laws has been a big issue, especially when the number of mass murders and shootings are continuing to grow in the United States. Putting a limit or constraint on people who own guns will not stop the problem. Putting a limit may hold someone back for a short period of time, but somehow will still find one, purchase it, and use it. Some people just own a gun for the simple purpose of protection. Three major components of the second amendment will be affected if some type of gun control were to take place and those three components are concealed carry, weapons of mass destruction, and invasion of privacy.

Complete gun control for rifles is irrational, unconstitutional and hard to implement. The restriction of rifles in the united states is irrational due to crime statistics from the FBI. The FBI homicide statistics state that in 2016 there were 11,004 firearm homicide but only 374 of those were performed with rifles vs the 7,105 performed handguns. These statistics show that the handguns were used in 64% of homicides vs rifles being used in 3% yet rifles get more negative news coverage. The fact of complete gun control for rifles is unconstitutional because the 2nd amendment is intended for the american people to be able to defend themselves from a tyrannical government.

On average 96 Americans are killed with guns every day and more than 100,000 people in America are shot in murders. We must need Gun Control. The one who is a con for Gun Control says “If gun control laws were made much more strict, these criminals would still be able to obtain illegal weapons. The only difference would be that the people who are not criminals would not have the ability to defend themselves” but if we eliminate the gun control, the murder case will increase greatly.

Gun control is what restricts people from buying and using guns, but these laws are not strengthened at the extent they need to be strengthened. Many people have said that we should not allow guns to be purchased, which would seem like the logical option. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.

In the past, the major gun control legislations that have been put into effect have not stopped people from obtaining firearms (Gun Control.) There have also been cases in the past where cities have attempted to ban handguns. After the ban was put into effect, murder rates tended to rise instead of drop, unlike what most people might assume. Crime rates and violence also skyrocketed after the bans were put into effect. Another problem with taking guns away, or banning them, is that the government cannot expect everyone to abide by the laws.

Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.

In our country we tend to blame our mass shootings and homicides on guns, but without a human behind it guns are harmless. Instead of banning these firearms all together, which may only cause an uprising in illegally owning guns, why don’t we strengthen our gun control laws? By banning people the right to carry and own a gun, we are restricting them of their basic rights. If we increase background checks, insist on mandatory classes and shooting practice, requiring safe and secure gun storage, and engaging in legal and responsible gun dealers.

Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.

See criminals are always going to get their hands on guns no matter how many gun restrictions we pass. We can’t stop people from getting guns because there has to be at least 310 million guns and maybe 180 billion rounds of ammo in the US. Now the NORC in 2001 found that 59 percent of people with concealed handguns felt safer when they left their home. That means people from big cities felt safer when they left their homes because they had a concealed handgun. In 2014 there was a 23% incline from women that concealed handguns made them feel safe.

Instead of banning or limiting guns, the evidence will show that removing the current restrictions and targeting individuals instead of guns will be a more effective process. The topic of gun control has two polarized opinions. One such opinion targets the individuals responsible for the crime, instead of just the weapons. Therefore, I believe the guns should be banned in the U.S. It is no exaggeration to say that guns are the key element to cause the instability in the society of U.S. The citizens are possessing guns in U.S. and this is a huge risk for the government and the safety of society itself.
