The purpose of this essay is to pick apart Mill’s essay and to give my own personal opinion about happiness. Stuart believed that you could achieve happiness by helping others achieve happiness and by finding things that you enjoy in life. I believe the key to happiness is helping other people achieve their happiness, do things that you enjoy doing, and looking at things in the brightest way possible. I honestly believe that everyone wakes up in the morning wanting to be happy, I have never seen a person who wakes up saying, “ I want to have an absolutely miserable day today”. It is human nature to strive for happiness and do things that you enjoy to do. John Mill says, “those only are happy (I thought) who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness” which I don’t …show more content…
In my experience nothing, nothing at all feels better than the feelings after you have just volunteered your time or donated something to help someone. The feeling of making someone’s day and observing the bright smile on their face definitely makes me happy. Also with my experience, doing things I want to do is what makes me happy. I find happiness in running, getting away from the world for an hour, being able to clear my mind and just focus on the nature around me makes me happy. There are activities for everyone out there, no matter who you are to make you happy; you just have to get out and find them. Lastly, I believe the last key to happiness if to look at everything in the most possible way. If you look at everything negative then you will never be truly happy and you won’t have very many people who wants to be around a Debby Downer. Being happy is a choice, as Abraham Lincoln said,” Most folks are happy as they make up their mind to be” you have every right to be happy, its just up to you to make it
In Andrew Guest’s, “Pursuing the Science of Happiness” he argues the complexity of happiness and the pursuit in which you follow to gain it. The ultimate objective of life for some individuals all through the world is to accomplish the condition of happiness while doing the activities they cherish the most. Each individual satisfies his or her own particular measurement of happiness in different courses, from practicing their most loved game, being with their families and companions, to making a trip to exciting puts over the planet. Guest uses rhetoric and research to carry on his argument that speaks on the idea of reference anxiety, where people change their dreams based on financial standpoint, and they define financial prosperity with their happiness, which is superficial.
The excerpt, “The Soul of an Individualist”, states that to be truly happy, there must have some type of egotistical thought in your mind. One’s happiness has to be taken into account at all times and you cannot take it for granted. He wanted to find the meaning of his life, which is impossible to find. The meaning of life cannot be found, it is given by oneself, which is the philosophy Equality figures out. To
The idea expressed in paragraph 7 is saying that the concept of happiness involves moving forward or backwards. However, the spaces where we move have the ability to change very quickly from one specific set to another. This means that now in days, there are tons of factors such as the internet, social media, religions, and drugs, which influences our idea of what we consider
In the article “Stop Trying to be Happy,” Mark Manson states that nowadays, people are striving so hard to be happy, while happiness is something in their self. However, most of them do not realize that when they do something they like, that is not a happiness, it just a pleasure. The problem why people are unhappy is, they always do something on other people expectations, not struggle to reach their expectation. Moreover, negative emotion is important to release unnecessary thing in our self, it keeps a happiness steady. Most people, always do something that is hard for themselves, but they keep try to do it, even they are fail.
Arguably, the happier an individual is, the better the quality of their life, and the better off they are. But despite this, there are people who will even argue that lower levels of happiness are the best because you maintain the ability to progress in life and your motivation is still present. Although many people will only see two sides to this argument, there is a totally different view that provides the optimal quality of life and the most beneficial outcome in the big picture; and that is moderate happiness. Cliff Oxford’s essay “High Performance Happy” evaluates the effect that an individual’s happiness has on their beneficiality to society and how you should always strive to be the happiest you can be. Oxford’s main point is that
People want to be happy, isn’t that right? Well, aren’t they?’” (Bradbury 56). All people want in life is to be happy. They want to be untroubled and not have to stress about what’s going on in the real world.
People miss the fact that happiness comes from within. In an attempt to find joy – we must also be cautious about over excessive desire to acquire material objects and wealth. There is a delicate balance that must be reached between the pursuit of happiness, satisfaction, and contentment. While there are many conditions that fulfill ones emotional wellbeing, happiness and how we acquired it, depends upon the
Throughout the course of one’s life, there is a constant search for some form of happiness. We may not always realize we are on the quest for it, but it’s part of human nature. In “Silver Linings Playbook” we see this happen throughout with Pat and Tiffany, who are both searching for happiness. The film is relatable to us all in that many times we go looking for happiness only to come up empty-handed.
Not many achieve happiness in their lifetime. Either they do not live long enough to witness it or they are not prepared for what their happiness is. Happiness is very subjective. Each person’s version of happiness is different. This version of happiness is universal.
According to J.S Mill, one should choose an action that maximizes the happiness
Happy people are more open and easier to approach in public. Additionally, as Susan David states, “In some cases, they even help broaden how we think and act by directing our attention to new information and opportunities” (David 124). By being happy, one is more likely to listen to other people to learn the way they think or feel about a certain thing. Someone is even more likely to accept what is said or even start to feel that way about that particular topic as well. Happiness has other benefits as well.
As the saying goes, “A person cannot give something that he does not have.” For a person to be truly happy, he should imbibe it and be a role-model on how it is to be truly happy. One of the best ways for a person to do these things, is to be open enough to do good things as well. He should always remember that genuine goodness leads to true
Happiness can be viewed from many perspectives. Individuals display their happiness in countless ways, could be having someone to speak to on good and bad times, happy relationships, passing an exam, having your loved ones alive and healthy can be happiness to you the list goes on. It all comes down in the way you view things in life. In my opinion it is about the energy you display or attract. When you give off positive energy into the universe you attract positive energy in return.
How does someone know if they are truly happy? Much of society have come to associate happiness with the pursuits of personal pleasures or that which makes us “feels good”. When we feel good we display positive expression of emotions such as joy, laughter, kindness and fewer negative emotions such as anger, hate, and sadness. To some people our happiness is already determined through our genes. Some people seek happiness through money and material possessions.
The definition of happiness incorporates different aspects of religion, science, and philosophy. To me, being happy means that someone has discovered who they truly are and what they believe in. A study on the Jewish
