I. Identification of Work
The book, “Harriet Tubman: The Road to Freedom” was written by Catherine Clinton. Catherine Clinton is the Professor of American History at University of Texas San Antonio. She is extremely qualified due to her intensive work dealing with this time period of American History. She studied sociology and American History at Harvard and then received her Ph.D. at Princeton University. She has written numerous books about American History, and more specifically, slavery and black history in the United States. Due to these reasons, she is highly qualified to write such a book.
II. Summary of the Main Ideas

This led to a greater understanding of Tubman’s actions and lifestyle. By showing her hardships as a child and teenager, a reader develops a connection and a feeling of empathy for Truman. This organization makes the story seem more adventurous than most biographies. These biographies simply state cold, bare facts, while Clinton’s portrayal allows a reader to live the story of Tubman’s life with her. For example, when Clinton states, "Slave parents lived in abject terror of separation from their children. This fear, perhaps more than any other aspect of the institution, revealed the deeply dehumanizing horror of slavery." (p. 10). This line from the past presents empathy and an understanding of why Tubman would risk her life so many times to save hundreds of slaves. It also gives background information on slavery that is vital to the understanding of the horrors of slavery. On the downside, this organizational style allows for numerous amounts of unnecessary details to be included in the biography. While these details were interesting they were not prudent for the understanding of the plot. Clinton’s organizational style increased one’s understandings of Tubman’s actions, which led to an interesting and unique portrayal of a historical nonfiction
Comparative Essay This two stories are about a girl that has been a victim of the Holocaust and a women that helped slaves runaway. Slavery lasted over three centuries and Harriet Tubman had a rebellious spirit and conducted hundreds of slaves threw the underground railroad in the story GO on or Die there's a detailed journal that explains what is it like to be in the underground railroad. The story A Heroine's Last Days tells how European jews used to hide because the Gestapo persecuted them and how was their life in concentration camps. This to stories relate because this young lady called Anne Frank and this slave woman called Harriet Tubman were both persecuted because of their race or their religion. Anne Frank stood in a secret place on somebody's house called the Secret Annex meanwhile Harriet Tubman was trying to go to Canada where there was no slavery.
Ann Petry also stated ,¨She is also well known for saying ,” We gotta go free or die, and freedom’s not bought dust.” Which was a very important message when escaping slavery. Being a conductor on The Underground Railroad was difficult, especially with a $40,000 dollar bounty on your head and with a recognizable feature. Tubman would have to back and forth from the North and South, and when the Fugitive slave law was passed, she’d have to go to Canada with runaway slaves. According to Biography.
“Mother Jones: fierce fighter for workers rights” is a biography by Judith Pinkerton Josephson is about, Mother Jones going to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and noticed kids were in awful condition, from working in the Mill House. The Significance of Harriet Tubman and Harriet Beecher Stowe’s involvement in the Underground Railroad (as part of the Abolitionist Movement, 1850-1860) The Underground Railroad is not what it may appear in its most literal sense; it is in fact a symbolical term for the two hundred year long struggle to break free from slavery in the U.S. It encompasses every slave who tried to escape and every free person who helped them to do so. The origins of the railroad are hidden in obscurity yet eventually it expanded into one of the earliest Civil Rights movements in the US.
In conclusion, this essay is important to know about because this stuff still happens today. Human trafficking exists and people like Harriet Tubman are able to take a stand and work on the problem. People are put into a form of slavery and forced to work there. The modern day underground railroad was established by victims like Harriet Tubman and still works. I hope this inspired you to make a difference and continue her dream of no slavery.

HARRIET TUBMAN Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1822. Tubman was born to slave parents, Harriet "Rit" Green and Ben Ross Tubman. Her name given at birth was Araminta "Minty" Ross. Tubman 's mother was assigned to "the big house" and had very little time for her family; unfortunately, as a child Tubman was responsible for taking care of her younger brother and baby, as was typical in large families. When she was five or six years old, Brodess hired her out as a nursemaid to a woman named "Miss Susan".
