The characters in Harrison Bergeron were much different from the ones in Anthem. George (a mentally and physically handicapped man watching a television programme) was okay with the way the general public ran things. He was content with the fact that his government sounds off disturbingly loud and obnoxious noises in his head every time he had an individual thought. However, there was one character that wasn’t okay with what was going on; he went by the name of Harrison Bergeron, he was arrested at age 14 for supposedly being a threat to society because he was stronger and smarter than the other men around him. While in prison Bergeron was in prison his irritation with the social order grew.

Almost everyone has read a science fiction novel. Science fiction novels that are especially popular are often those that portray dystopian futures. Stories of this sort depict far-fetched scenarios in which every part of life is unfair or miserable. Although these tales may seem far-fetched and implausible, there are instances in human history which mirror them. For instance, the Holocaust of World War II is an example of such a scenario.

A dystopia where equality is everything and there handicaps limit anything that could possibly make someone unique, all this in the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. The message of “Harrison Bergeron” is, to have the same of everything is to diminish the experience and interesting traits of a person. A clash between diversity of skill level is not to lead to envy, but to the way you push each other to succeed at higher levels. The two novels "1984” and “Harrison Bergeron" and the movie "The Purge2" all relates and compare to the dystopian literature by citizens being controlled by government or some type of dictatorship. Society in the dystopian movie and two novels have plenty of the same similar and different characteristics, controls, and protagonist.

Harrison Bergeron” is about the distant future. In a world where no one is better than each other. A husband and his wife are watching the TV about some dancing Ballerinas (George and Hazel Bergeron). George has some handicaps because he was smarter than his wife every 20 seconds he hears a loud noise in his head. George and Hazel make some small talk about what would happen if people break the laws and something interrupts this.

Many people in 2081 believe that Harrison’s ability will be more powerful and better than others. He is literally weighed down by so many things from being himself. The Handicapper General placed gadgets to keep him normal like the rest. That caused many people the be afraid of him. Harrison Bergeron is a not a threat to society; he is a hero.

Man Can Never Be Equal “Life is about family and technology” (Mark Goddard). This quote was chosen because family and technology both play a vital part in both stories Anthem and Harrison Bergeron. A dystopia is the opposite of a utopia and is usually characterized by a totalitarian society. Totalitarian society is a society in which nearly every aspect of public and private behavior is regulated by the state.

It is the year 2081; because of the new Amendments to the constitution everyone is now equal. One day, Harrison Bergeron is taken away from his parents’ home, George and Hazel. They are both unaware of what is happening because George is required to wear a radio in his ear that makes it so he cannot comprehend what is happening around him, the reason he must wear this is because he is smart.

The Future of these worlds was very grim and depressing. The world in “Harrison Bergeron” is based on equality. The government at this time is vigilant that everyone needs to wear government handicaps so that “Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else.

These experiences shape people's identities, making up who they are and how they live. Because communities have people with different beliefs living in them, everyday life is lively and full of diversity. During the Holocaust and in dystopian societies, many of the people lack diversity because of their living conditions.

The theme of this story is that no one should be forced to be equal, since everyone is their own special person. The story describes George and Hazel Bergeron who both have different living perspectives. In the life of 2081 everyone is expected to be equal, because of this way of living George’s intelligence makes him differ from everyone else which  is weighed down by earpieces that vibrate a sound. This earpiece transmitter distracts George from any thoughts that make him learn more or feel smarter.
