The social disorganization perspective, the classical perspective, and the learning perspective can be seen in different aspects of human behavior and throughout Sonny’s life growing up and as a member of the Hell’s Angels. Each of these three perspectives “provide us with an image of what something is and how to best act towards it” (Pfohl, 2009, pg. 12). They are tools with which we decide what we experience, why something is the way that it is, and how we might act or react” (Pfohl, 2009, pg. 11). Stephen Pfohl, author of Images of Deviance and Control, examines nine different theoretical perspectives on deviance and control. In the book, each perspective, its deviance, and how it can be studied and controlled is explained. The nine theoretical perspectives of deviance discussed are the demonic perspective (deviance rooted in realm of the supernatural); the classical perspective (deviance as rational hedonism); the pathological perspective (deviance as sickness); the social disorganization perspective (rapid change and normative breakdown); the functionalist perspective (deviance as beneficial or positive); the anomie perspective (normlessness and inequality); the learning perspective (acquiring deviance in association with others); the societal reaction perspective (social construction of deviance); and critical perspectives. These theoretical perspectives provide insight to understanding, explaining and dealing with acts of deviance (Pfohl, 2009). For this analytical paper, the book Hell’s Angel, written by Ralph “Sonny” Barger, will be analyzed by utilizing three of the different perspectives studied throughout the term in Images of Deviance and Social Control written by Stephen Pfohl. This review will discuss two topics raised by Michael Shaara in the novel; the ongoing conflict between which fighting style and strategies should be used by the Confederate army, and the other is the state of mind of the Confederate and Union
When looking at the back cover of Michael Shaara’s The Killer Angels, positive reviews of the book, and a brief summary can be seen. The summary begins, “In the four most bloody and courageous days of our nation’s history, two armies fought for two conflicting dreams.” But after reading the book, one would realize that every single soldier on either side for their own personal reasons, that may not have had anything to do with the war.
Time, space, and context are also important in regards to deviance. When someone commits a deviant act, where they commit it, and who commits it/what setting they commit it in can affect other people’s reactions to the deviant behavior. A deviant action or behavior will not be viewed in the same way by everyone. Each person has their own perspectives and what might constitute grievous deviant behavior to one person might just be a minor inconvenience to another. The same principle applies to deviant behavior when setting is

They have looked at the criminal and deviant acts within a society and the people committing them in order to explain any trends in such behaviour. There are fundamental questions that are posed in everyone’s life. The most asked, as well as the most daunting one is perhaps what happens when we die, and what is heaven like? Billy Collins in his poem “Question About Angels”, attempts to pose and answer such questions. The theory argues that individuals engage in crime following their being identified as criminals such that they behave in a manner to fit the awarded label (Arrigo & Williams, 2006). Manson was such a victim as he was regarded as dangerous in reformatories. He found no other option other than engaging in crime and regarded himself as more than a typical delinquent. In order to comprehend the thesis, it is essential that one understand the psychological makeup of the Misfit. The Misfit accepts that he is not “a good man”, but he isn’t “the worst in the world neither” (O’Connor, 619). The Misfit has made his fair share of mistakes but more importantly, is conscious of his shortcomings and his strengths. A major strength that the Misfit possess is that he does not pass judgement onto others because everyone has done wrong, including himself. “I found out the crime don’t matter.
Thesis Statement: People who commit evil crimes are worse than those who are unconcerned by the acts of evil because it is sinful, to seek sympathy and it defies other people’s rights. Someone who commits evil acts are worse because they are physically hurting someone else and that is simply not right. People who commit such dishonorable acts are inhumane or perhaps they are longing for some sort of attention even if it’s of negative regard. One who is profoundly immoral and malevolent is mentally unstable and could not be considered “normal” to society.
As far as crime is concerned, it is defined by the law. Deviance is unexpected behaviour, but not exactly considered criminal. Many consider crime as a social problem – a problem as defined by society, such as homelessness, drug abuse, etc. Others would say crime is a sociological problem – something defined as a problem by sociologists and should be dealt with accordingly by sociologists. This essay attempts to discover the boundaries between these two and ultimately come to an appropriate conclusion.
