Growing up where I'm from there are numerous negative outlooks and stereotypes placed upon us. Some of those maybe true, but it isn't just all bad there are several good things that goes on in my community. I feel as if my community’s positive things are being overlooked and therefore needs multiple improvements. If my community got the improvements that were needed we wouldn't get displayed negatively. These improvements need to be in a few important places such as high schools, parks, and shopping venues.
Are you aware my local high school doesn't even have lights for its winning football team? For the past decade my former high school has had nearly a undefeated season every year but can even play home night games at our own school because we can’t afford lights. I feel as if that shouldn't have to be an issue seeing how we soar in athletics the state wouldn't make an attempt to help fund towards getting those needs met. Seeing this just makes me think of what else we could have improved.

70 years is a long time for an infrastructure to be still in use with no upgrades, improvements, or anything in that degree. I think that we deserve a whole new campus which would make more people want to attend and the graduation rate would possibly increase. Just from a few adjustments to a well-deserved high school could possibly have a heavy impact on our community as a whole by getting kids off of the streets.
Forget the funding for things that are not necessary, such as the new stadium and by-pass. The province could have gone without those expenses while in a deficit, but since the government decided to dig Saskatchewan in a deeper debt with the new stadium and by-pass, the education system is forced to suffer. At this point, the government needs to be wiser about how they spend their money, and realize how much teachers are really
In the TV show Freaks and Geeks, many stereotypes are presented through the use of media elements. The filmmakers used the media elements of setting and characters to show the different stereotypes in Freaks and Geeks. The media element setting is used to show stereotypes of the stereotypical high school environment using tools like time and place. Setting displays the stereotype that all high schools have certain groups assigned to their own tables. In the case of the TV show Freaks and Geeks, the geeks sit at one table and the jocks sit at another.
Yet even the best of policies have its flaws and issues. When talking about the Federal Pell Grant, the history and reason for it were filled with good intentions but through political changes and constant reforms, the grant is know limited and restrictive to a multitude of different people. The recent studies above have shown that the grant has not only eliminated almost all registered criminal offenders, but has been seen to actually limit the number of minorities in certain colleges as well as lower and middle class citizens. On top of this we see the funding for the grant be reduce time and time again, even lower than in 2014, which had a maximum amount of $5,645. Also, in most recent times the Senate has still not been able to pass any further legislation on the bill or it’s budget.
Also, there needs to be a major education reform budgetwise. Public schools should be abolished and the government should just give people a certain amount of money and they can choose which school to use it on. Education should be left to the private sector because they do it best. Taxpayers who pay to go to private schools should not have to pay for public
Teacher pay needs to be increased. Programs need like the North Carolina Teaching Fellow Scholarship Program need to be increased especially if there are over two thousand applicants for five hundred scholarships that shows people are
The three most prevalent races that comprise the population of my school are White, African American, and Hispanic. Whites are the predominant demographic occupying about 85% of the population, followed by African American at 13% and Hispanic at 2%. This ratio has been relatively stable for the last forty years, with a slight increase recently in the Hispanic populace. Throughout the course of our lives, we are often exposed to stereotypes that help form our opinions. In many instances these beliefs are not based on reality, but on information that has been passed down for generations.
From our previous film showing, High Noon, we got a taste of how the Western genre portrayed Chicano/a characters. The late 1970’s saw a decline of the western, and “with the decline of the filmic western came the rise of the urban violence film” (Cortés 134). The 1980’s and 90’s saw film after film released portraying gang violence, and the Latino gang film was a “natural crossroads for sex, violence, and ethnicity” (Cortés 135). Some see these Latino gang members “as updated, modern variants of the Mexican bandit type” (Treviño). 1993 brought us the film Mi Vida Loca, which shows us the life of teenage Chicano/a gang members living in Echo Park, focused on the character known as Sad Girl.
When I was young, I did not know how unfair the world could be. That is how it is with almost everyone. You don't notice the judgemental eyes or the hurtful words until later on in life. Those who think everything is fine are deluded and hopeful. If I wanted to stray from the path the world had given to me, I would be considered an outcast.
Many people come across roadblocks through their journey of life. I know I've had my fair share of them. The biggest bump in my academic life was changing it completely upside down. Growing up african American or with any skin that holds the slightest of pigment is not easy, but that's obvious due to our nation's past. Racism and stereotypeing has always been there.
This allows school districts with little or no money for building expansions to handle a growing student population and save millions of dollars in construction costs.” (Nair 2). Saving so much money could help schools afford better teaching equipment, which would most likely improve student grades. Next, a drawback is that it could be hard on families if the children have different school schedules. The change could make it difficult to plan a family vacation, go to summer camps,
Everyone always has that stereotype of wanting to be one of the cool kids in school or anywhere you go and that 's what makes you fit in with everybody else. Macklemore “Wings” show a deeper perspective on why we buy items based on popularity and what makes us fit in. In the song the phrase, “I was so cool, I knew that I couldn 't crease 'em, My friends couldn 't afford 'em”, was Macklemore way of referring to that he felt cool because he had shoes, no one else had or could afford and it made him stand out. The realization made it seem like he was better than everyone and was actually fitting in with the cool kids. When you walk around with a fresh pair of shoes, or clothes, it makes everyone look at you different and you feel some
Increasing school funding may cost money but it would help the future of
Growing up around social media and movies that contrast stereotypes frequently, it has become almost natural to presume a way about a group or individual without knowing one’s identity. Before interacting with those who attended a private school, my mind was entrenched to the assurance that those students were wealthy, preppy, and superior who wore the same uniform everyday, resembling everyone else. From kindergarten till seventh grade, I attend a small charter school called Sherman Thomas where uniforms were enforced. Being mistaken as a private school majority of the time, outsiders viewed me differently. Mrs. Napier, the principle felt as if all students wore the same attire, no judgement towards the less fortunate would take place.
Mean Girls is a movie set in North Shore high school that is run by distinguished stereotypical social groups. These social groups are consistent with that of a typical high school movie. Although these social groups may be typical with the conventions of movies that take place in high school, these stereotypes serve an important purpose. This purpose is to deconstruct what these stereotypes actual entail and see them from an outside perspective. This idea is most exemplified the social groups of The Plastics, popular girls, and the art kids.
As society advances more and more into the modern era, media plays more and more of a role in children’s and young adult’s day-to-day life. Televised and online resources have allowed greater audiences to have access to the entire globe and all of its inner workings, creating more well-rounded citizens for the future. However, this nearly unrestricted media can lead to some deep troubles for younger societal members. Being raised with constant streams of media tends to lead to such networks of information being viewed as absolute. Those that do not fit certain views or ideas are snubbed or criticized for the archetypes that are constantly carried out in these networks.
