Holocaust Rhetorical Analysis

In history there was many events that were horrifying. The Holocaust was one of those frightful events. During the World War II, the nazis were the ones in charge of the Holocaust. Six million Jews, homosexuals, and gypsies were killed and the survivors had to live their life with fear. These writers use several techniques in order to convey the horrors of the Holocaust.

In 2011, Avi Weisfogel created the innovative medical information program, “Healthy Heart Sleep” and “Owner Unlimited Sleep Patients,” informing medical practitioners and dentists about sleep apnea. To coincide with the initial two programs, Avi Weisfogel established “Dental Sleep Masters,” a program informing dentists the proper use of oral devices when working with sleep apnea patients. Avi believes there is a direct correlation between sleep apnea and dental issues. He is a graduate of Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, holding Psychology and Biology degrees and earned his dental degree-DDS-from the College of Dentistry at New York University. Avi is compassionate about what he does and always has time for helping others.

“Why the Nazi’s Loved America” by James Whitman is an article highlighting what Nazism means to the U.S. and how in some ways Nazism was drawn from the American Model. Whitman uses facts and statistics (logos), emotion (pathos), and credibility (ethos) build his argument that the Nazi’s loved America. Whitman’s appeal to logic (logos) are his strongest arguments. Logos appeals to the readers’ common sense, beliefs or values.

From both the author’s preface and chapter one I was able to determine that the desired audience is anyone who has heard about the holocaust and knows the atrocities that occurred. With this in mind Levi hopes to “furnish documentation [ to understand] certain aspects of the human mind. ”(Levi9) His audience could also include young adults with the purpose of helping them understand the severity of it and understand it as a “sinister alarm-signal.” Moving on to rhetorical techniques, Levi’s tone which seemed to be full of emotion helped strengthen the overall purpose of the book.

During the Holocaust, six million Jews were sent to their deaths. Nevertheless, in the Holocaust literature, one can find the glimpse of joy. In 1933, in Germany, Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party created a German Empire & Jews were no place in Hitler’s vision. Love & Laughter were two of the main things that made Jews and other people forget the time happening in the Holocaust, including nature. Almost 2,700,000 Jews were sent to extermination camps such as, Treblinka and Chelmno, where they were lately killed.

As a Jewish emigrant, Abraham Cahan is on his way to America to make a new home for himself. However, his trip will not be as smooth as the vast ocean he will sail. Along the way, Cahan faces a mix of emotions, which he knows are the feelings every immigrant faces during their first voyage across the ocean. As Cahan’s feelings change throughout his voyage, his tone in the passage changes as well.

Desperation and hysteria makes people susceptible to believe anything, which provides an opportunity for anyone to gain power. In “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, a group of young girls gain a significant amount of power in the court that is run by the majority of male Puritans in hysteric Salem. These girls, mostly Abigail Williams, portray themselves as victims of witchcraft to get the court officials to believe their stories. What they say gives them control over what happens in the court. Individual people can establish and maintain power over the majority through what they say and how they say it.

Chad Green 1/19/2018 A1 Holocaust: How Does One Say the Unspeakable? Holocaust is defined as a sacrifice consumed by fire. At the end of World War II Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party accused Jews of being behind all of Germany’s problems. He said they were the reason they lost the war and they were the reason that heir economy was failing.

For many years, there has been a lot of controversy centering on the rate at which crime and violence is happening in society. Steven Pinker, the author of “Violence Vanquished” states, “We believe our world is riddled with terror and war, but we may be living in the most peaceable era in the human existence.” This quote from the article proves to many people that our world isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. In the article “Violence Vanquished” Pinker uses Logos, and an argument of fact to support the article 's central message which stands to prove violence is at an all-time low in today’s society.

Everyone has heard of Adolf Hitler and how he tried to conquer Europe. He attempted doing it at the right time when everyone thought that Germany was going to lose everything, because, the national debt and inflation was so high. Germany was so desperate for anyone to help them that Adolf Hitler saw a chance to step up and be in charge of everything. Hitler was very good at acting like he really cared about his people. He claimed to the German people that he would help with unemployment, help businesses, success to the failed businesses, and to expand their army to make them more powerful.

“Honey, you are changing that boy’s life.” A friend of Leigh Anne’s exclaimed. Leigh Anne grinned and said, “No, he’s changing mine.” This exchange of words comes from the film trailer of an award-winning film, The Blind Side, directed by John Lee Hancock, released on November 20th, 2009. This film puts emphasis on a homeless, black teen, Michael Oher, who has had no stability or support in his life thus far.

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.

Award winning writer, George Orwell, in his dystopian novel, 1984, Winston and O’Brien debate the nature of reality. Winston and O’Brien’s purpose is to persuade each other to believe their own beliefs of truth and reality. They adopt an aggressive tone in order to convey their beliefs about what is real is true. In George Orwell’s 1984, Winston and O’Brien use a variety of different rhetorical strategies and appeals such as parallel structure, pathos, and logos in order to persuade each other about the validity of memories and doublethink; however, each character’s argument contains flaw in logic. Winston debates with O’Brien that truth and reality are individual and connected to our memories.

Whether working with a co-worker, learning with a classmate or hanging out with a friend, the thought of any of them having the potential to be evil does not cross the mind. Everyday people are not typically evil beings, but if people are not evil beings then why do they commit actions like torture, killing and genocide? Could it be that the certain people committing the acts are just monsters deep inside, or could the actions be mere products of circumstance? In his article "The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror", Crispin Sartwell, a journalist and philosopher, advises his audience to take a look at the heinous acts people have committed throughout history as a way to show us how anyone could commit evil acts, including ourselves. In Michael Levin's The Case for Torture, Levin provides an argument in which he discusses the significance of inflicting torture to perpetrators as a way of punishment. In his argument, he dispenses a critical approach into what he believes justifies torture in certain situations. Torture is assumed to be banned in our culture and the thought of it takes society back to the brutal ages. He argues that societies that are enlightened reject torture and the authoritative figure that engage in its application risk the displeasure of the United States. In his perspective, he provides instances in which wrongdoers put the lives of innocent people at risk and discusses the aspect of death and idealism.
