Description of the Problem Mr. Tate is a new assistant superintendent in a district that he is readily familiar with having more than 12 years combined experience as a teacher and assistant principle within the district. Upon taking on his new role, the case study did not clarify if Mr. Tate was given a clear description of all of this responsibilities or program oversight. In this particular case study, it was established that the district not only did not have a designated Homeless Liaison at each of their school buildings, but rather a Homeless Liaison for the entire district; namely Mr. Tate. Since Mr. Tate was unaware of his role as the district’s Homeless Liaison, it was evident by the conversation with the general education teacher that district staff had not been trained on the McKinney Vento homeless identification process and definition. The issue of homelessness in America has been evident since the early 1600’s. Across the country men, women and children spend their nights on the streets not knowing when or if they will ever find a permanent home. You would n ever know by looking at me or talking to me that my family and I have been homeless before. For the kids that have been homeless before it doesn't make you any less worthy, or intelligent than anyone else. There are many things you can do not only to help yourself with the feelings of being embarrassed or ashamed but you can also help others like you, be apart of organizations, and volunteer your time to others that have been in our situation of being homeless so they can feel better and know it ’s okay.
Homelessness is more than just the absence of a permanent address. It is a condition in which a large, growing percentage of people in the United States and most likely the rest of the world find themselves. It means being cut off from relatives, social groups, and community organizations and losing a sense of belonging to society (Brown&Casey, 2014). Homelessness in America is a long-standing and pervasive social issue. Health care, in particular, poses a challenge as homeless individuals struggle to obtain even the most basic care.

For one week every summer, the senior high youth at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Roseville drop everything to venture somewhere in the United States on a service learning trip. Since I happen to attend that church, and I just so happen to be a senior high youth, I have joined these trips for three years running. Usually, we help out in soup kitchens, do some yard work, or visit homeless shelters. However, our trip during the summer of my junior year was destined to be different from the very beginning.
The committee would have the responsibility of connecting with agencies that serve homeless youth. By creating these connections, the committee personnel could serve as a linkage between homeless students and agencies. For example, linking students with agencies that provide shelter or connecting them with agencies that can provide food.
