In schools cheating is something that is looked down upon and seen as a huge issue to teachers and administration. There are multiple methods that have been used to stop this dishonest actions however, the honor code is the most well known. Many schools have unique versions of the honor code but, they all have the same goal. Cheating is a serious topic and should not be tolerated however some honor codes don’t do the best job in controlling the students. My school does not have a harsh and over the top honor code which is a good thing and should be maintained. The key to convincing students to follow an honor code is to make it known but not take it to the extreme.
To begin, many schools take the honor code to an whole another level and tend to go overboard. Some schools are known for requiring students to write and sign a pledge of honor on every assignment that is given (Source B). This method of trying to control cheating could be perceived as being too much or immortal. It is extremely tedious and takes up extra time that could be used to complete the assignment. There have been many cases of students in high school and college students cheating on tests and exams in various schools. Many students believe that signing a piece of paper does not have a huge effect on a person and does not guarantee that it will promote change (Source C). Students will only change their ways if they want to and feel it is necessary to change. Instead of enforcing a excessive school wide honor code, schools should focus more on the students who have a history of cheating. Many students automatically expelled students who are caught cheating, which may not be the best solution.
