Elvis was a person who had nothing and worked a job at age 19 to live in a house with his parents who both had jobs too to keep their house, but he would work hard to become the greatest singer of all time. He made two records and later the store owner would ask him and two others to try and form a band. They made a band and, made two songs that were received with mild approval from audiences. Elvis Presley changed the United States in many different ways through music. He changed Rock and Roll and modernized blues, country, and bluegrass music. [“A true rock and roll pioneer”]. He changed what music was considered acceptable for certain audiences. Since Presley combined the different music genres it had a lot of different things that different people liked.
While working for the electric company in 1953 he went to a recording studio to record a song for his moms birthday, while recording the song the studio producer noticed him and said if he found a song that he wanted Elvis to sing he would make him a singer(Watson 24, 25). Not soon after he got his chance and recorded his first hit in 1954, the same day he got an on air interview because of how popular the song had became (Watson 26-29). Soon after he began performing in local bars around towns (Elvis, ULX ). In July he released his first hit single (Watson 28) and his song “that's alright momma” got #3 in Memphis (Elvis, ULX ). He started on tour going through little towns in july, then in Oct. he played at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville (Watson 29,30,31).
Elvis faced many obstacles during his 24 years as the “King” he faced racial controversy, musical barriers, and bad press in order to help create Rock and Roll music. Long before Rock n Roll was created or even thought of, the musical world was divided over petty differences. One of the many reasons why music was divided was the heavy racism that plagued the United States since the end of slavery. Another reason why music was divided was the fact of a huge generation gap, or difference between parent and child. These are some of the challenges that Elvis faced.

First of all, in the 1950’s Elvis Presley and his music started the era of the generation gap between teenagers and their parents, an era which is still going on today. With Elvis being very young, attractive and his new type of music and dancing, teenage girls fell head over heels for the young star. Most parents though, did not feel the same way about Presley. He was often described a vulgar and many accused him of corrupting the youth.
