There are many reasons why England’s colonies were found but I believe the colonies were founded because of different religious beliefs, lack of resources, and just expanding rule not only in England but in another territory. John Locke was a philosopher and political scientist. He had many interests and produced a number of writings that influenced future leaders. One of these leaders was Thomas Jefferson, who was involved with the aid of America and the act gaining independence from Britain. The Declaration of Independence and Locke’s views on government contain many similar aspects. From the 16th to 18th century, countries in Europe were experiencing new ideas and reforms. Philosophers like Locke believed in social equality. They have discussed the purpose of a government and spread their ideas. Locke’s ideas led to the revolution in France, who didn’t have rights under absolute monarch’s control. After the French gained their rights, people in Haiti started to fight because they wanted to have the same rights that French gained during the reform.

The people of America (colonists) were tired of being controlled by England. They wanted to be free and independent. They believed that they were able to control themselves and be their own country. They wanted England to let go of their control and to view them as independent and their own country.

Locke was a part of several significant moments, such as the European Enlightenment along with the Constitution of the United States. Thus, “his political thought was grounded in the notion of a social contract between citizens and in the importance of toleration, especially in matters of religion” (Rogers, 2023, para. 1). Locke’s principles were not always immediately accepted into society, as it took several years for these ideas to be accepted. Along with other principles and ideas that Locke had, “John Locke’s Second Treatise on Government, published in 1690, is the founding statement and justification of the right to private property, and to its secure protection by public law and force” (McMurtry, 1997, para. 5). This specific theory was widely well-known, as it was very broad.
