Napoleon Bonaparte has always been seen as a tyrant, but he has made many positive impacts on the world. Napoleon rose to power after the French Revolution. There, Napoleon would become a genius general and later he would appoint himself Emperor of France. Napoleon Bonaparte used his power to impact the modern world through the Napoleonic Wars, the sale of Louisiana Purchase to the United States of America, and the Napoleonic Code.

In 1809 Congress reopened trade with foreign nations, except for France and Britain, in the Non-Intercourse Act. Eventually, US opened trade with both countries despite continuing attacks. A law was passed with the condition that trade with either European country would be cut off if the other ceased attacks on American shipping. Napoleon took advantage of the opportunity to hurt the British by dropping its restrictions on US trade, and in 1811 President James Madison cut off trade with Britain. Britain repealed the orders in Council in June of 1812, but by that time Madison already asked Congress for a declaration of war. The Napoleonic Wars, which was led by Napoleon Bonaparte, had a huge effect on the world as it effected US economic position, and led to the Louisiana Purchase and wars. Napoleon, whom was leading a revolution also needed money and decided to sell the entirety of Louisiana to America for the low price of 15 million. Though the federal government wasn’t specifically defined as having the authority to make a purchase such as that but Jefferson thought about being “troubled by the inconsistency, but in the end decided that the Constitution's treaty-making provisions allowed him room to act. ”(1) This was known as the Louisiana Purchase and it consists of land from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and allowed Americans to expand even further without worry of a foreign entity keeping them from doing so or causing tension between two countries with the necessity of the trade route for the US.

The War of 1812 was a war that was caused by both the English and French imposing economic sanctions on the United States, the British impressment of American seamen into the Royal Navy, and America’s desire to expand (History). The countries of Great Britain and France were locked in a conflict and neither wanted the other to attain any supplies from neutral countries thus the implementation of economic sanctions on countries like the United States. In the 1700 and 1800s one great ruler arose from France. His name was Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was one of the greatest rulers in the world. His legacy all started when he won the battle at the French port of Toulon. After this, he continued to win battles and he gained more power.
The war of 1812 was between the two countries United States a developing country and Great Britain a country that has been thriving for about 300 years. The United States was just now coming out of the Revolutionary War which was about 30 years. The United States won the revolutionary war, but the U.S. had not reached economic independence. The French were ruled by Napoleon Bonaparte which he controlled most of Europe. Napoleon’s plan was to take over all of Europe and then to come to the United States and take control of the U.S.’s land.
One of the main causes of the War of 1812 was the violations of shipping rights by the British. British fleets started harassing American ships and taking British American citizen’s prisoners to fill their own naval vessels. In an attempt to help rectify restrictions of the embargo that had been originally set by Thomas Jefferson when he was president between Britain and France; President Madison spoke with Napoleon and he said that he would remove his decrees if the British did as well. The British refused and President Madison was left without a choice and asked Congress to declare war on Britain. During this time Britain was also encouraging the Native American Indians to cause conflicts with American settlers.

This war was a huge influential factor in the growth of America from that point on. Britain's tyrannical rule over America and Canada eventually brought America to war. Although they suffered many casualties, American troops pushed the redcoats back and boosted the nation's confidence. Due to tensions with Great Britain, the United States declared war in 1812, giving form to a war that had been building for years. Though the war was between Great Britain and the United States, France also played a part in building up to this war. It started as Britain and France went to war and didn’t want the US to be trading with their enemy. Subsequently, France captured ships headed to Britain and the British captured ships heading towards France, impressing sailors to fight in the war. After the French Revolution, a Corsican artillery officer, named Napoleon Bonaparte, became the emperor of France in 1804. After playing a significant role in trying retake the French port of Toulon, occupied by the British, he was appointed general at the age of 26 in 1793. This marked the beginning of the Napoleonic Era, which would change the course of European history for centuries. However, despite claiming to be a strong supporter of the French Revolution, Napoleon mostly undermined the goals of the Revolution by violating the Declaration of the Rights of Man, insisting on returning to principles of the Old Regime in regards to women, the imposition of taxes and the re-establishment of the social elite. Nonetheless, Napoleon still supported the main goals of the Revolution by establishing the Civil Code and supporting the peasantry by lowering bread prices.

Napoleon intentionally conceded to the fact that he had betrayed the goals of the French Revolution. The values of the French Revolution were Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Liberty of the people, in other words, the freedom of the people was extremely important to the French Revolution.
Napoleon spread enlightenment ideas that benefited the people in France. He created the Napoleonic code, which was basically the first written document of laws. That meant that the judge could not change anything, but the laws applied to all citizens equally and protected their rights. He gave people religious tolerance, which means people had religious freedom. He also created a system of meritocracy, giving positions based on people's talents and not to the ones that are higher classes.
Atleast he actually opened up education to boys even for those that could not even afford it. Napoleonic code was something that eliminated many injustices. But also it limited free speech and press, and brought back slavery. Soon after that Napoleon elected himself as emperor. Which was actually kind of cool because he sent out a thing for everyone to see if it was a good idea for him to become an emperor or not.
