Why did Salem experience Mass Hysteria in 1692? The Salem Witch Hysteria (SWH) was a major event that occurred from 1692-1693. The event comprised of widespread hysteria that many witches were working with the devil to destroy the puritans. It started when various young girls began to fall on the ground into convulsions and fits, screaming the names of various people and accusing seemingly random people of practising witchcraft.

There were a lot of different types of dark forces in salem witch trials. Salem was very hard on there people. The people of salem got punished for not believing in god. The salem people get accused of witchcraft over and over again. Tituba confessed and said that she want to be a good christian.

Not many people believe in witchcraft. Once you live in Salem, where people are accusing others of being witches, you’ll start to believe. So, why did people go crazy in Salem 1692? It was caused by poor young girls who acted possessed because they were jealous of the rich. Young girls that did not want to be told what to do, afflicted girls acting as if they were possessed, and poor people that were jealous of the rich cause the death of 24 people in Salem 1692.

In June 1692, two young Salem girls, Betty Parris and Abigail Williams, accused slave woman Tituba and two other white women of practicing witchcraft after Betty and Abigail began to exhibit strange behavior. Tituba confessed to practicing witchcraft and exclaimed that

At the time of the witch trials the people were afraid of evil spirits, and the devil if you were accused of being a witch you would lose almost everything you owned. With the power of the church the people of Salem where easy overpowered by Propaganda and hysteria, with this people started so claim any was a witches for power, land, and even political strength. “We are what we always were in Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!”

Finally, Parris exclaims, “ You will confess yourself or I will take you out and whip you to your death, Tituba!” (1.941-942). Tituba instantly confesses, and saves herself from a terrible death.
