Valley Forge
After Philadelphia was taken by the British, the continental army had to pull back to Valley Forge, since they were unprepared to fight. Valley Forge was a good location. It was 22 miles from Philadelphia. Washington chose a spot on the Schuylkill River, which could be defended incase the British attacked. The Continental army would be staying in Valley Forge for the winter. Even though no battle was fought at Valley Forge, Washington and his Continental Army fought against hunger, disease, and winter.
Valley Forge was the site for the winter encampment of the Continental Army in 1777-1778. In the fall of 1777, the British had taken Philadelphia. Washington’s army tried to stop the British, but they failed. So, now the British army occupied Philadelphia, and they stayed there for the winter. On December 19, 1777, Washington’s army arrived into camp at Valley Forge. They were very tired, cold, hungry, and were lacking much training needed. Washington chose Valley Forge, because it was a settled area. The local people could give them food and clothing if they wanted to, but Washington never forced anything upon them. It was a very good place for defense. It would be very

They have an exhibit called, “Determined to Persevere.” It talks about the lives of soldiers during the winter encampment of 1777-1778. You can touch muskets, and even see how Washington lived in such tough conditions. They have programs inside the huts, to teach what it was like living in them. Washington’s headquarters are still there, and they replicated some buildings. There are statues and monuments throughout the park. For example, they have a statue of Baron von Steuben who had a great impact on the soldiers at Valley Forge. The park has picnic areas to eat, while admiring the scenery. Every April, there is a “Revolutionary Run” in the park. They even have a trail along the Schuylkill
The military adventures during the French and Indian War or Seven Years' War, Washington's generalship in the American Revolution, and his service as the United States' first president. In order to avoid troubles, Washington was granted for a commission by Britain in the Seven Years' War. The battle was known as the Siege of Yorktown, took place on October 19, 1781 at Yorktown of Virginia, was a crucial and determining point for the United States in the Seven Years'
The British also had a new strategy, they are going to take over the Hudson valley. “Okay we need to figure out a way to get into the Hudson valley” said a British troop. “Lets meet up in Albany, New York, where you can lead your troops south and I will lead mine north”. On June 1777 General Howe left with 8,000 troops to attack. “I'm so hungry and I need water”.
In December of 1777, American General George Washington and his men took shelter at Valley Forge for the winter. It was 18 miles northwest of the British camp in Philadelphia, and Washington thought it was a perfect spot. But that was not the case for the soldiers. The soldiers had it rough, and many did not want to enlist for the army after. Today, many people wonder if they would stay with George Washington, or not enlist and go home back to their families.
Tyranny and Strengths in Valley Forge Valley forge was the camp that the continental army stayed at during the winter. It was a harsh time of disease and poor food stuffs. The farmers chose to sell their supplies to the British just because they offered more money. While the continental army was set up, I was getting ready to go there and train hard. When I had arrived, General Washington was presenting the army to the Congressional Committee(DocB).Although some people were leaving, I chose to stay and train myself to the highest.
Valley forge was a winter camp for the continental army who fought in the American Revolution for independence. It was 18 miles from Boston so they could keep a close eye on the British. As you may know, Valley Forge was a horrible place and I would quit. Deaths and illness were very high. At one point on February 1, 1778, more than half of the soldiers were unable to report for duty.
French General Rochambeau and General George Washington had heard about British General Cornwallis’s encampment in Yorktown Virginia so they decided to make a plan. The french army and the Continental Army, a combined force of 16,000 men, surrounded the British camp and the French navy blockaded the waterways so that the British troops could not get help or supplies. On September 28, 1781, the fighting broke out. The battle lasted three weeks before General Cornwallis was forced to surrender 8,000 soldiers because his troops were out of food and supplies.
Valley Forge is where George Washington came to a winter camp next to Pennsylvania and tried to help because of the harsh weather and poor amount of food, water, and clothing they were provided with. They thought they could make an army and be get strong to be powerful to be ready to fight the enemies. They call this Valley Forge. I would quit Valley Forge because research shows that about 50% of people died because of the harsh weather and the many illnesses that went around. In December to June 1,800 to 2,500 people died due to illness during the encampment.
The winter of 1777-1778 saw the Continental Army encamped at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and the harsh and brutal conditions of that winter posed a number of significant challenges to George Washington and his troops. This essay will identify and discuss five key challenges that Washington and the Continental Army faced during their time at Valley Forge. Firstly, one of the most pressing challenges was the severe lack of supplies and provisions. The Continental Army was already in a precarious position before settling at Valley Forge, but the winter conditions made it almost impossible to maintain adequate supplies of food, clothing or shelter. The Continental Congress was struggling to provide the Army with the necessary funding, and widespread
The Battle of Antietam is viewed as the bloodiest day ever, with more than 23,000 warriors injured, killed, or missing. The Battle of Antietam occurred close Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The fight was battled on September 17 1862. A large portion of the war had been battled in Virginia, as of right now.
One of the tours is called the Atlantic experience which is 19 dollars a person and includes, exploring the grounds of the Fort, a trip on the ferry around the harbor, and learning what happened during the war. When the tour is over you can grab a bite to eat at the snack bar or go buy souvenirs at the bookstore! If you think your kids will get bored, they have something called the National Park Service Flat Ranger. Which means they can explore different times of conflict in our history. These periods encompass the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
Staying at Valley Forge During the winter of 1777 and 1778 Valley Forge winter camp is where George Washington and his troops were located. Valley Forge was very cold and many soldiers got sick or died at Valley Forge. I would stay at Valley Forge. In an essay written by Thomas Paine(Doc. D) in his essay he explains that those who left Valley Forge were made fun of and were called things like summer soldier because they could not handle the cold weather.
This battle took place after a demoralizing defeat at Long island. George Washington was forced to retreat all the way across New Jersey back in Pennsylvania. Due to the cold and harsh winter and the defeats in the previous wars, the Continental Army was one the verge of abandoning the rebellion act. Therefore George Washington needed to find something to build up the spirit in his troops. As such he then decides to cross back over the Delaware River and attack the Hessians (German hired troops) at Trenton, New Jersey.
Valley Forge was a winter camp 18 miles away from Philadelphia, where George Washington took his troops during 1777 and 1778. The British army is comfortable in Philadelphia, while Valley Forge has harsh conditions with the cold weather and the lack of supplies. I will not reenlist when my 9-month enlistment is over. I will not reenlist for these reasons, diseases, lack supplies, and cold weather and smoky air.
Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.
The winter of 1777-78 was terribly cold, bitter, and harsh. These conditions made things very difficult for General Washington’s military unit. The unit’s morale and physical strengths were severely tested throughout this challenging and historical time. On December 19, 1777, General George Washington, the Commander of the U.S. Continental Army led the troops to Valley Forge in Pennsylvania for a few different reasons.
