After reading chapter 26 I learned that charter schools should collaborate with public schools to support better education for students. Charters schools enroll a small number of English Learners and students with disabilities, in order for the parents to believe that those are better schools. Charters schools take funding from public schools because parents transfer their children to charter schools. Charters schools also suspend and kick out students who they believe will not help the school get high test scores and thus, not get money. Charter schools treat their students as a business, a way for them to make money and they discriminate those students who they believe won’t make them money.

In his State of the State address, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that our state’s economy is greater than that of Australia, Canada, and even Russia. Nevertheless, according to The Texas Tribune, Texas ranks last in school spending per student. This legislative session, the focus on school finance has shifted to “school choice” legislation that would allow students to attend charter or private schools through government money via vouchers. Many of those who support charter schools claim that charter schools are better based on math and reading assessment scores. However, such conclusions fail to take into consideration the demographics of students attending charter schools as opposed to those of public schools.

However, having school choice is crucial for students who cannot learn and thrive in the curriculum or the teaching styles of their school systems. School choice has the potential to raise test scores and grades of low performing students in a traditional public school. The acceptance of school choice has helped many cities find a way to get more students to graduate and thrive. Some charter and private school help states with schooling almost half of their population.

It proves this because grades are the same for people with and without vouchers. Vouchers harm our failing public school system even more than they already are. However, the government in many places wants more regulations over homeschool education. Many want it to be outlawed altogether and the privilege to be taken away from families in order to have more control stating abuse and neglect on the parents part. Others want a more rigorous testing schedule and minimum educational requirements provided by the parent wanting to educate. Educational options serve to help the children not just be another number in the school system. They provide opportunities to engage students and nurture their interests in order to grow their knowledge of the working world they will eventually

School Funding Inequality “One of the most powerful tools for empowering individuals and communities is making certain that any individual who wants to receive a quality education can do so” (Christine Gregoire). Everyone deserves an equal education regardless of where they live or who their parents are. Children are facing the consequences of decisions they can’t make. The current way public schools are being funded is not working effectively, students are suffering and there needs to be a change.

At public schools they allow kids to have their phones, they have better sports, and it allows kids to be more free. Public schools have honors classes that also allow kids to challenge themselves, but if they are not ready for that then they can stick to regular classes. Some charter schools on the other hand are more challenging and do not offer an easier way and the school makes it harder on the kids leading to more stress. School is already stressful enough as it is but there could be a better way to go about assigning work, at some charter schools it is harder to do the work

Similar to a public school, private schooling have their low, medium and upper class students.
