The pigs assume the role of leader in society because they are seen as the intelligent ones on the farm, there are different groups among the animals and pigs, one group’s leader is Napoleon and the others is Snowball. The pigs in Animal Farm by George Orwell use many forms of propaganda effectively to make Napoleon seem like a trustworthy and good leader and make Snowball seem like the opposite, of the ways they use propaganda the two most effective are capitalizing on fear and insecurities, and disinformation. Disinformation is when someone uses false or incorrect information to make themselves look better it is often used in political campaigns to make one party look better. The pigs use disinformation by making up stories like when squealer says, “I believe the time will come wen we shall find that Snowballs part in it was much exaggerated”(Orwell 70). Although Snowball had a great and vital role in the battle of cowshed they use disinformation effectively to make the rest of the animals believe that he had barely anything to do with it. Another way the pigs use disinformation is by telling the animals the plan for the Windmill was not snowballs idea and it was stolen from Napoleon. “The plan which Snowball had drawn on the floor of the incubator shed had actually been stolen from among Napoleons papers.” (Orwell 71). Squealer completely lies to the animals saying that Napoleon had the idea of building a windmill and that it was stolen by Snowball this is very effective because the other animals don’t really know what happened and will believe Squealer because he is very persuasive.
