It is important to make good decisions when in a problem. If someone is struggling to make a decision they should analyze their reasons and the outcomes of each option. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, a character named george has to make a tough decision that could affect his future. George was a worker during the Great Depression times in America and had a close friend names Lenny. Lenny was slow minded, but very strong physically. So, he caused many problems that would create a strain on George and Lennie's dream to live on their own ranch. Soon, Lenny caused so many problems that he got to the point where he was suffering. Also, he was making george suffer because George and to resolve all of the conflicts himself which involved a lot …show more content…
So, in the end of the book, George decides to kill Lenny to put in him out his misery. George made the correct decision to kill Lennie because he took away his suffering and pain from making too many mistakes. Lennie was suffering because he was in trouble so many times and he did not realize what he was doing wrong. In the story George says “ Ever’body gonna be nice to you. Ain’t gonna be no more trouble. No body gonna hurt nobody nor steal from ‘em.” So, if George takes Lennie's life away, he will be taking away Lennie's misery. Lennie becomes very upset when he makes mistakes because he wants to tend the rabbits his dream dream. But, when he makes mistakes he knows George will not allow him to do so anymore. Which means Lennie is in pain and cannot control this pain he feels when he makes mistakes. Also, in the story Curly says “Curly’s face reddened. “I’m going’,”
Ain't’ gonna be no more trouble.” This proves that it was good to kill Lennie so, he doesn’t make anymore mistakes. Last but not least, it’s good that George killed Lennie because it allows Lennie to live in the american dream forever. On page 99 Lennie says, “ Well, I can go away … I”ll go right off in the hills an’ find a cave if you don’t want me.”
Of Mice And Men Have you ever had to do something that you didn't want to really do? In the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck George Milton faces many problems with his mentally disabled partner Lennie Small. George and Lennie want to make some money working on a ranch and then buy a little farm house and some livestock to live off of. But, George and Lennie face the problem of Lennie always getting in trouble. So George then has to make the a really hard decision.
In the book Of Mice and Men, George did the right thing by ending Lennie’s life because it allowed for Lennie to be killed by someone who loves him and it stopped Lennie from hurting or possibly killing others
Even though George never talked to Lennie about dying, he did kill him out of love. George cared deeply for Lennie, they were best friends, so he would not have hurt Lennie unless he believed it was the only way. Lennie was not aware of how strong and overpowering he was. Even when he thought he was being gentle Lennie’s strength caused harm. Neither George nor Lennie wanted to hurt the anyone.
Sometimes the right thing to is the hardest thing to do, but it will result in a positive outcome. This is a key theme of the book, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Gary Sinise’s film version of this novel effectively conveys this theme throughout the entire story. This is shown throughout the book and film from events such as Lennie’s fight with Curley, Crooks’s conversation with Lennie, and from George eventually shooting Lennie at the end.
George needed to euthanize Lenny because he was being held back by Lenny, Lenny could not live by himself because he cannot take care of himself. In the text it states “Tell you what made me stop that. One day a bunch of guys was standin’ around up on the Sacramento River. I was feelin’ pretty smart. I turns to Lennie and says, ‘Jump in.’
He was careless of what he was doing because all he wanted was to tend rabbits. He had the knowledge that he was strong and bigger than Curley’s wife, but he did not care about human life, just about rabbits. Lennie should’ve understood and thought of another way to tell a human to be quiet without taking that person’s life.
Throughout the book George calls Lennie a “crazy bastard”. Although, George uses foul language toward Lennie, his actions show his compassion and caring. George even contradicts some of his own put-downs towards Lennie as seen on when he compliments Lennie’s work ethic, saying, “he is a hell of a good worker and strong as a bull” (pg 22). Another argument that George is a bad friend to Lennie is the fact that George shot Lennie. It is true that George shot Lennie, but what some do not understand is why this occurred.
George takes Lenny’s life and while it could be said it was murder in the end the decision George made was out of kindness. Of course, George never wanted Lennie to die but that is exactly what made George's decision so great and just. George knew that Lennie would suffer at the hands of Curley, and even if the two escaped together Lennie would just suffer further. George put away his own emotions to make the best decision he could think of and that was to let Lennie go. It was George’s humanity that made the act of killing Lennie justifiable.
Everyone was out to get him and George is the only one looking out for him. This is one of the reasons Lennie never wants George to leave he
It does not directly state that George is doing this in order to end Lennies suffering like with Candy’s dog, it is implied that George shoots Lennie to end his suffering and to make his death
George was his best friend and Lennie needed him. In Of Mice and Men, George should not have killed Lennie. George knew that Lennie needed him and that he should not have killed him. Lennie was dependent on George because he had always been around him.
The book shows that George makes sure to care for Lennie after Lennie killed Curley’s wife. George tried to convince Curley to let Lennie live, and said that Lennie didn't really know what he was doing (Steinbeck 91-95). The next main character, Lennie, also has problems with emotions.
This relates to Of Mice and Men because George wanted Lennie to be happy and still hold onto his pride when he died. He made sure Lennie didn’t feel like he was trapped with no way
It is clear that George did not have the right to end Lennie 's life in such a selfish way. George always talks to Lennie about how fabulous they are when they are together at their own ranch and from day to day I end up with their life in a very cruel way. In conclusion, it can be said that George 's reasons for ending George 's life were enough to do so since Lennie was a very dependent person and could not stand alone. George tried to help him at all times as far as he could, but still Lennie was still in serious trouble, that 's precisely the reason why George wanted to prevent Lennie suffering in the future because he realized that he could not live alone.
