I knew going into the human service field that a lot was going to be hands on. For my first experience to go to The Department of Human Services of Denver, completely opened my eyes on how a process can work to help lives in our community. The department is located down town off of Federal by the Denver Bronco stadium, there I met a dear friend Nichole Young who was so generous to help me and guide me through the entire department. I arrived to the department on October 25, 2015 at 4:00pm. The first feeling I had when I walked in was I felt at first I was in a court house or dmv. There were waiting chairs on one side and an information desk with a security guard. There I was welcomed by my friend Nichole Young with a hug and had I sign in. The first stop she took me to was the program to show me where clients can apply for food stamps. There are two programs next to it …show more content…
While talking with her I was so focused and intrigued to learn what she has been doing and where her degree has taking her. I had to seek some clarification on the different departments that were mentioned, but it was because there were so many details that she wanted to tell me about and show me. I was able to get a summary out of her and we wrote notes down together on how this whole department works as a whole. There are not enough bodies to help everyone out and that made a huge impact on myself. I listened to everything she had to say, I caught myself tearing up just listing to her stories and how impactful being a social worker can be. This was one interview I felt that I had hardly any listing blocks standing in the way. I know I must have looked like a bomb went off with all of the information giving. I know my face had some blank stares to gather how this department works. I was aware of my nonverbal communication but I kept up my posture and eye contact to learn everything I could about this
I chose to interview someone that I have looked up to and has been an inspiring role model for deciding to pursue a career in nursing. I have known Phyllis Czarnecki, for six years now, however, I was never familiar with the details of her career as a registered nurse. This interview gave me more respect for Mrs. Czarnecki by giving me a better understanding of the path she has taken to be where she is now. I have always known the general idea of a nurse's responsibilities, however, this interview allowed me to learn the personal opinions and a specific job of a registered nurse. Phyllis realized, as a teenager, she wanted to become a nurse when her mom was hospitalized and undergoing surgery.
I think she was a little upset. She mentioned why she would have to stay with the resident’s. I told her that this was mention at staffing that staff would have to stay. When they returned I did ask, how did it go? She said that it was pretty good and that it was meant for her to stay.
When I arrived at the location there was a lot of people coming in and out of the building. They had a foyer where they had different hangouts on each side of the wall. I also noticed that they had different application for different services. I noticed they had an application for food stamps. Medicare and other forms as well.
I couldn’t wait to meet her in person at my orientation. When orientation came and I finally got to meet her, I was in for a pleasant start to my college career. She assigned me and all of her other advisees a project in
As more people seek for support to get through difficult times, the demand of human services agencies has been increasing. Without agencies and organizations, the goals of the human services field would be impossible to satisfy. The purpose of human services is to improve the overall quality life, both individually and collectively. Just as there are many causes within the human services field, so too are there a huge numbers of organizations whose target is to accomplish these goals. In our visit to one local community based agency, we investigated the mission and structure of this human service organization, requirements of the agency’s services, job titles and responsibilities and how professional ethics are applied in the agency.
My 295 experience has provided me with exceptional experiences that I can apply in any work setting. My internship during my first year of the MSW program was at the Transitional Community Opportunities for Recovery & Engagement (TCORE) while my second year placement was at the UC Davis Medical Center in the department of Clinical Social Services. I believe that my 295 experience during the MSW program has helped me grow as a social worker. I would rate my clinical (direct) practice training as average. In my opinion, my field placements provided me with some clinical practice training, but not compared to other placements.
My understanding of Human Services is to help people who need additional help and guidence to move forward with their life. Sometimes people need help with external problems such as the loss of a job, the need for food or housing or for help getting out of a dangerous situation or mental and physical health crisis. The Human Services practitioner is a professional who acts as an agent to assist and or empower individulas, groups, families and communities to help them function more effectivly in all areas of life and improve living condition. Human Service professional will always advocate for their clients and will never give up on them and make sure to strive for the clients well being as long as the client want to change.
Barbara, the nursing coordinator, had given me an administrative task, I am supposed to input the number of nurses on the 7th floor for each day of January. The documents were confusing because the numbers were all over the place and I had a to scribe them onto a separate document. I kept on visiting Barbara and asking her questions about the documents. I soon understood them and was able to finish half of them and left the other half for the next time I come for the volunteer who will here the next day in the
I have the pleasure of knowing someone in this field, and have known her for ages. Never would I have thought that she would want to work in a
One of the advice she constantly was recommending me was to get my master degree because she though it would help me get more opportunities in the field of social work. A similar connection I thought about while hearing her speak was that as well as me she wanted to be in a field where she could help people, but she though nursing was not for her, so she decide to go into social work. At the end of the interview I thought that I did learn more about social workers who work in a nursing
Portfolio Part B: Reflection on the overall learning within the module Prior to starting this course the MA Social Work course and the PPSWP module I felt very confident in the aspects of communicating effectively and working with a diverse range of people, and after the reading the professional capabilities framework I believe that I hold the same personal values which is expected of a social worker. The PCF6 talks about the importance of critical reflection and reflective practice explaining that it helps improve accountability, professional development and helps to you understand your own tacit knowledge and gain new knowledge, which improves outcomes and experiences for social workers. (Capabilities within the PCF, 2016) For this reflection
She talked to me about all the ways music therapy was used, and all the clients it was used with. She opened up a whole new perspective to me, that involved much more than just children. I learned music therapy was used with Alzheimer patients: something my papaw had struggled with for a long while before he passed away. It made me think, if it could help with memory, it could have helped my mamaw who struggled with her memory when she had bleeding on the brain. Knowing that music therapy could have helped many of my family members, it made me respect the program even more, and lead me to where I am
These are all the feelings that were going on within while and even before I gave the interview. She ended up being very informative about the information that I needed to find out. She sort of seemed as if she didn’t want to answer a few of the questions. Overall the information that she provided was very helpful.
For my interview reflection project I chose to not only interview one woman in my life but instead I chose to interview two women who mean alot to me. I interviewed my maternal grandmother Tacoma Sao(67) who was born and raised in Stockton her whole life. The other woman I interviewed is my great aunt who is my maternal grandfather’s sisters and her name is Lisa Sao (55) who was also born and raised in Stockton but later moved to New York, Colorado, and so on. I chose to pick these two women because for one I was interested in learning more about them because I have never really asked about their lives growing up. The other reason that I picked these two women is because their opinions and beliefs were extremely different.
Amy made me feel welcome and important instead of inconvenient or in the way. My interview went for
