What was Hurricane Katrina? Hurricane Katrina was the largest and 3rd strongest hurricane ever recorded to make landfall in the United States. Katrina first made landfall on August 29, 2005 and struck the Gulf Coast of the United States. Hurricane Katrina was first announced as a Category 3 hurricane and with time it soon grew into a Category 5 hurricane.

The hurricane of 1938 was a devastating storm that took a lot of lives. Obviously sense it is a hurricane its weather conditions were treacherous. The impact of the hurricane affected most of New England in many ways. There were lots of other conditions as well that didn't help. The hurricane of 38 had deadly weather conditions.

A hurricane is a storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean. One of the biggest hurricanes that hit the world was Hurricane Ten. Hurricane Ten is the oldest Category 5 hurricane in the official North Atlantic hurricane database, which dates back as far as 1851. The hurricane first struck the Western tip of Cuba with winds of 165 miles per hour causing roughly 90 deaths. Hurricane Ten later struck the United States in South Florida causing minimal damage.

Irma was a category 5 hurricane. It hit Florida, debris left lying around everywhere. At least 36 people were reported dead, and over six million people were left without power. The flooding has makes walking the streets dangerous as the muddy water can hide sharp objects along with holes. The (FEMA) Federal Emergency Management Agency estimated that 25% of homes within the Florida keys are completely destroyed, and 65% have had major damage.

There are some natural disasters that shake up the world and make people depressed, but Hurricane Katrina was like no other. Even though warnings were given and evacuations were held nearly 2,000 people died because of this hurricane. During the storm winds were as fast as 175 mph with heavy rain all through out. People were stranded and about 8,000 homes were destroyed. People had to wait five days at the superdome full of many New Orleans residents.

Damages ranged from blown out windows to building collapsing on one another. Roofs ripped of the trim of houses left behind. Rubble , floods , and debris all on the roads. The conditions were treacherous very dangerous conditions. Many hurricanes were dangerous but none were as costliest events in American history.

On August 23, 2005, a tropical storm referred to as Katrina started over the Bahamas. By August 25, the tropical storm traveled westward toward Florida and gained enough strength to generate into a hurricane. Katrina weakened again and was referred to as a tropical storm. August 26, Katrina surfaced into the Gulf of Mexico and gained more strength, causing it to become a Category 5 Hurricane. As Katrina traveled to Louisiana and made landfall, it weakened again.

On August 23, 2005, a tropical depression, over the Bahamas, morphed into Hurricane Katrina which would become known as “the single most catastrophic national disaster in U.S. history” (FEMA, 2006). As Hurricane Katrina developed, weather warnings followed, advising residents of the Gulf Coast States to leave their homes evacuate the region because the storm was predicted to leave the area uninhabitable for up to a week, possibly more. One week later, on August 29, Katrina struck the Gulf Coast states as a category three hurricane, stretching 400 miles and bringing sustained winds up to 100-140 mph and causing great damage to infrastructure, homes, and lives. The hurricane resulted in the death of an estimated 6,000 to 12,000 people, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in U.S. history. The disaster caused widespread destruction, and many people lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods. The hurricane also exposed the inequality and segregation present in the city, as many of the poorer residents who lived in lower-class areas were more affected. In the aftermath of the hurricane, there were efforts to rebuild the city, including the construction of a seawall and raising the elevation of buildings. The disaster also led to efforts in meteorology and the development of hurricane warning systems.

Hurricanes not only bring devastating storm surges, violent winds, and torrential rainfall, but the aftermath of these storms proves to be costly. According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Ivan resulted in over $14.2 billion and Hurricane Katrina produced over $75 billion in damages. After witnessing the devastation of these hurricanes, I remain determined to improve structures on the Gulf Coast.

A hurricane forms when the warm air over the ocean rises up and the cold air comes over the water the wind starts moving fast in circles. This process creates a hurricane. Well, if a hurricane comes from the North it spins counterclockwise and when it comes from the South it spins clockwise. As being said, the warm temperature that form above the ocean create the rotating wind because when warm air and cool air are touching together then it makes an area of lower pressure, warm air is lighter than cool air so higher air pressure pushes into the lower pressure area and it cause hurricane.
