The story “Red Queen” by Victoria Aveyard is a very symbolic and intriguing novel. Theauthor uses blood, something every living person must have, to draw a line between people. Theauthor gives one blood color, the silver blood group, magical powers while the other group, thereds, are left to clean up after the pefect silvers. This story also uses betrayal to symbolizerebellion against the color of the blood.A phrase repeated throughout the story is “anyone can betray anyone”. The imagery ofthis phrase plays a large part in the story. But deeper than the overall plot of the story is how itsymbolizes rebellion, for standing up for what you know is right even if it’s never been donebefore or if it’s not the popular thing. This symbol, and the plot, creates the image of inequalityand how it is able to produce an untrusting world. …show more content…
The blood symbolizes inequality as well. One group has magical power while the othergroup must work themselves to death. “This is the true division between silvers and reds: thecolor of our blood. This simple difference makes them stronger, smarter, better than us”(9). Thisis similar to the idea in “Animal Farm” about how everyone is equal, but some are more equalthan others. The silvers have this idea stamped in their brains that they are, and always will be,better than the reds. However, the reds are tired of how they are forced to live, and they are willing to fight and die to prove the silvers wrong. In the novel, the main character turned out tobe a simple red girl with silver powers. She was given an opportunity. It was her choice to act onthat gift for the benefit of the red’s or the silvers she was becoming. Unlike some people aroundher, she saw the silvers for who they really were, who they were becoming. “The gods rule
The color red is intense; it is often associated with emotions that fall on opposite ends of the spectrum. Passion, desire, and love are polar opposite of fire, war, and blood. James Hurst used the color red throughout his short story, The Scarelt Ibis, to create literal and figurative symbols, which illustrated the dichotomy of the narrator’s memories of his younger brother, Doodle, to convey both beauty and tragedy. A reader is immediately introduced to the symbolism of the color red, and its beauty, the moment they read the title of the short story, The Scarlet Ibis.
The numerous symbols throughout help the reader to get a deeper understanding of the characters and further develop the story. The symbols
Which can be demonstrated in “Battle Royal,” where Ralph Ellison uses symbolism to express one black man struggle to go ahead in predominately white society.
The color red is “associated with blood, so it is the symbol of violence, danger and rage” (Haibing 42). A horrendous event happened that impacted most of the characters with was the hit and run that killed Myrtle Wilson, Tom’s mistress and George Wilson’s wife. As Tom, Nick, and Jordan arrive at the scene, they see everyone crowding George Wilson’s garage and an ambulance. The three characters advanced forward to see what the commotion is. They see Myrtle on a table covered in a blanket with bruises, cuts, and blood everywhere.
Ellison uses the color red to symbolize blood, anger, and danger throughout the book. For example, describing Brother Jack's red hair, the “red-faced” men at the battle royal, the vet's red wheelchair, and even Santa Claus. Red functions as a symbol of evil in the book. It showed that the narrator feels uneasy and
The book Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is about a world that has been split in two. You are either a Red, who are the lower classman people, have no abilities, and have red blood, and the Silvers that are the high class people, have supernatural abilities, and have silver blood. The main character, Mare Burrow, who is a Red, discovers she has supernatural abilities while working as a waitress in the kings castle. Everyone is shocked and confused on why a Red can have these abilities, so the queen makes Mare pretend she is the long lost daughter of an ancient king and was taken when she was a baby, and raised as a Red. Mare has to learn the right way to become a Silver inside the castle where her life is on a constant schedule and has to
the novel Red Queen Mare believes she is one of the two different types of people in the world: red and silver. Mare was born red-blooded. Silvers have different sorts of super human powers, as Reds do not, so they are treated almost as slaves to the Silvers. Reds carry out pretty much all of the dirty work. This is one of the reasons why Mare hates Silvers.
From the title to the animals and characters in the book, everything holds a sense of symbolism unparalleled to anything else. A sense of irony is quickly noticed as Guy a man who has devoted his entire life to burning books, becomes one of the most rebellious characters in search of his happiness or trueness. I really enjoyed the fact that Guy somehow always new he was different and didn’t want to continue living a life of mediocrity but it took Clarisse a bright young girl to show him that he wasn’t happy and made him question his entire existence (Bradbury 31). I think this symbolises the ability of how far individuals can grow if they just accept the perspectives and help of others. Were becoming a self-reliant society, and that's good, but we need to realize that in order to truly prosper in life we must work together.
The book has many themes about racism, prejudice and innocence; one symbol that reinforces the themes is the mockingbird. The mockingbird represents

In Margaret Atwood’s, The Handmaid’s Tale, colour symbolism is important, as it provokes abstract thoughts or concepts that help us understand the novel better. The colour that stands out the most is red. It is a significant symbol throughout the novel. To begin with, the red outfits the Handmaids are forced to wear cover their entire body. “Everything except the wings around my face is red: The colour of blood, which defines us” (Atwood, 8).
When talking about the meaning of the color red, Taylor Swift once said, “On one end you have happiness, falling in love, infatuation with someone, passion, all that. On the other end, you've got obsession, jealousy, danger, fear, anger, and frustration.” Swift’s perception of red is true in the novella Of Mice and Men. The color is repeated throughout the book when talking about women. Lennie, a main character, is often in trouble with women in red; they each symbolize something different but the same.
One of the most important symbols of this story is Harrison; he symbolizes the revolution that everyone wants ad needs, he also symbolizes independence and doing what you think is right. We know this because he is the only one in the story who at least tries to gain independence and freedom. Another important symbol are the handicaps; which symbolize the oppression, conformity and the false equality. The handicaps show this because they are the tools the government uses to oppress people and stop them from being themselves. Symbolism shows the tone of foreboding because every symbol relates to something that could happen like the handicaps are like chains that hold us back and Harrison is like the revolutionist with a new idea or
“The greatest sacrifice is when you sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of someone else”. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, the author Khaled Hosseini writes a story about an Afghan girl name Mariam. Throughout the book it shows her life and growing up in Afghanistan. She learns about her country from events from her personal life and others. As these events grow throughout her life the color black appear more.
Aspects in the review of Victoria the Queen by Janet Maslin develop Queen Victoria’s life into the category of an epic. All categories of an epic have been shown in Victoria’s life. As well, Queen Victoria had always had to fight from her own since birth due to her devious uncles. With the information given in the review, Victoria’s life resembles the meaning of an epic. Even though Victoria’s life was definitely proper, Victoria’s life can be put into an epic description.
