Impact Of Europeans On Native Americans

Starting in the late fifteenth century, French and English explorers went on voyages to see America and to discover North America. When they landed, they came across these native Americans. During the French regime (1534-1763), the French explorers found the natives to be very useful. In some cases, they used the natives for the benefits of the mother country or the colony by profiting off of natural resources for example animal furs. There were positive results on the French colonizers, such as their profit gained from native relations and the territorial expansion, and negative consequences to the natives including the population decline caused by European disease and increasing tension between different native groups.

The idea of middle ground can be applied in various times throughout history, but it is generally focused on the relationship between the Native Americans and European settlers. The best way to describe middle ground in an equal and positive sharing system between two groups of people. This sharing can be of things such as goods and services, or even just knowledge.

The way the government handled issues during land ordinance was handled in a positive way, but it had a negative impact on the native Americans. The colonies were getting overcrowded and there were less job opportunities for people so many decided to move out. The development of agriculture and the rise of industrialization generated new cultures and innovations in the new world. Native people in early America developed cultural distinct , men were in charge of the fishing, hunting, jobs that were more exposed to violence, and the women stayed closed to the village, farming, and child bearing. The way of life possessed by natives Americans did not compel them to conquer and transform new land. As opposed to European colonizers, Native Americans subscribed to a more “animistic” understanding of nature. In which they believed that plants and animals are not commodities, they are something to be respected rather than used.

Native Americans flourished in North America, but over time white settlers came and started invading their territory. Native Americans were constantly being thrown and pushed off their land. Sorrowfully this continued as the Americans looked for new opportunities and land in the West. When the whites came to the west, it changed the Native American’s lives forever. The Native Americans had to adapt to the whites, which was difficult for them.

The Key Differences Between Native Americans and Europeans Even before the Native Americans and the Europeans had met, they were doomed to have conflict. Both groups had disparate views in how an individual’s wealth was measured and more importantly, they had crucially different beliefs in how many facets of divinity were in their religion. The idea of a communal wealth between a group of people was shared by most Native American communities, while the widespread concept of mercantilism was held by most European explorers. However, the opinion of god was what created tension between the groups. The Europeans had a monotheistic God while the natives often had many gods in their culture.

Their creation story, The World On Turtle 's Back, outlines not only the creation of Earth, but also the complex nature of people. The legend states that the Earth resided on the back of a great sea turtle, constituted first by a pregnant woman. The daughter of whom would birth the twins who would become the duality of deceit and order in every living being. This legend has been passed down through the generations, first through oral tradition and later translated to writing.
