A genre classifies books with similar characteristics and style together. Nonfiction is a type of genre that means that all statements in that book are factual. In Cold Blood, written by Truman Capote, is considered nonfiction, but there are many critics who think it contains elements of fiction. There are various flaws in the book that deny its nonfiction claim. Indeed, it is true that this book is based on a true account, but Capote’s descriptions seem too detailed to be true. How is he fully confident to include conversations between Nancy and Kenyon Clutter when he never met them? How is it possible that Capote knows that Perry and Dick’s confessions are true? To conclude that his book is nonfiction lacks plausible evidences.
Even though, books need to contain factual evidences for the writing to be nonfiction, but Capote’s writing style is too detailed to be accurate. His poetic writing style adds painstaking details, but it also provides surreal occurings. It is absolutely true that In Cold Blood is based on a murder case that happened in real life. It is understandable that most of the book can be put together with extensive research-- which Capote did, for many many

Based on source B, “... fiction and nonfiction do tend to deploy different methods for getting to the truth. Fiction, we have been told, tells the truth but it slant.” It is claiming that fiction is just a different way of presenting nonfiction. That argument is completely implausible, fiction will never be nonfiction. And nonfiction will never be fiction. How can nonfiction be present in a fictional way when they are complete opposites of each other? They are created to be different from each other and belong in two different genres. A true account can never be considered “nonfiction” when that book incorporates fictional elements in

Though the Clutters are seen to be a typical mid western family, with their traditional values, hard working spirit as well as with their high standards of class and dignity. In the story “In Cold Blood” the author Truman Capote uses a tone of scathing and tragic. “Those somber explosions that stimulated fires of mistrust in the glare oh which many old neighbors viewed each other strangely, and as strangers.” That shows how everything was so different around the neighborhood after they were brutally killed. “At the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them- four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human lives.” After the accident, “Towns people, therefore sufficiently unfearful of each other.”

Maybe having something to do with his mothers ideals for him, she “often picked on him for his effeminate ways, and for not being like other boys” (“Truman”). He might he have fit in 1960s Kansas like a round peg in a square hole. In the clubs and night life he would have been a novelty to have fun with, but I wonder if anyone would sit next to him in church?
Digging into such dark territory had taken a toll on him psychologically and physically. Known to drink, Capote began drinking more and started taking tranquilizers to soothe his frayed nerves. His substance abuse problems escalated over the coming years." (A&E Network "In Cold Blood" para. 5). Non fiction novels are great ways to make people aware of real life issues that happen everyday. People face poverty issues, racial issues, and environmental issues everyday of their life and are affected more than others. For example the environment is affected because of the different things people do in their everyday lives, like things that deal with fossil fuels and gas. Another example is race and how people are treated because of their specific race or religion. Issues like these are happening all around the world and most likely can be found in a nearby non-fiction novel.

Facts and Fiction: A Manipulation of Language in Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood English is a fascinating and riveting language. Subtle nuances and adjustments can easily change the understanding of a literary work—a technique many authors employ in order to evoke a desired response from their readers. This method is used especially in In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, a literary work which details a true event about the murders of four members of the Clutter family in the small community of Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959. Although Capote’s 1966 book was a bestseller nonfiction and had successfully garnered acclaim for its author, there is still a great deal of confusion about the distinction between the factual and fictional aspects in the book.

Jim Murphy proudly said “I write narrative nonfiction, creating lively scenes through action and the use of quotes from firsthand accounts, all based on rigorous research. If I say a character leaned against a fence on a windy day, then I have at least two sources to back up these details.” This one quote beautifully summarizes my paper which will discuss the need for accuracy in narrative non-fiction. Narrative is a form of storytelling.
