Informative Essay: The Holocaust Massacre

On November 14, 1945, the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials began in Germany. They were to be the definitive judgement of the crimes against humanity by the Nazis. In the midst of the trial, it was determined that the SS, along with its associated organizations such as the Sicherheitsdienst (SD--the security and intelligence organization within the SS) and Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo—State Secret Police), was a criminal organization.1 The verdict placed on the SS was as follows:

Near the beginning, Gleichschaltung took place, which translates into “equalization” and is the process of ruthlessly ridding of opposition. During this, the head of the local Altoona Nazi party self-appoints himself mayor and takes senators into protective custody while also planning on having former mayor, Max Brauer, hanged, leaving the public defenseless against new authorities (Chotjewitz 80). Then came provisions of Nuremberg Laws, which stated that sex and between a Jew and a German was racial ignominy and marriages between the two races were forbidden (Chotjewitz 98). Later on, however, we learn that there are other ways to oppress them that weren’t legal. For example, when Rhienhard was trying to build up a new practice after being fired, he received a letter from the Ministry of Justice that asked him to declare, “of his own free will, that he could no longer act in any legal capacity, not even as a notary public (Chotjewitz 200).”

They would replace the people who mattered but made the Jews feel like they didn't when they were told to keep going. Overall, the Nazis neglected the Jews and put them in a position no person should ever have to experience.

However, in the passage about SS officers and soldiers, the author explains that “SS men…established killing centers equipped with gas chambers to facilitate assembly line mass murder” (“Perpetrators” 5). Therefore, SS officers developed the places where Jews were killed and without them, the Holocaust would not have been so severe. Thus, SS officers were more responsible for the Holocaust than non-Jewish Europeans. Moreover, according to “How and Why Did Ordinary People Across Europe Contribute to the Persecution of their Jewish Neighbors?”, “They [German citizens] were aware of the risk that outspoken dissidents faced in a police state, where opponents of the regime could be arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned in concentration camps without trial” (12).

The leader of the Holocaust, Adolf Hitler, described himself as the creator of the Holocaust alongside his personal assistants, such as Himmler, who would give speeches on behalf of Hitler. The purpose of their actions was to kill anyone who did fit their ideal descriptions, mainly targeting Jewish people. The actions of the leader’s responsible lead to a dramatic increase in their power. As the Holocaust continued Hitler and the Nazis only got stronger. Although their power increased within Nazi Germany, many people started to riot and attempt to end Hitler’s reign, resulting a couple failed assassination attempts.

This evidence confirms Nazi soldiers were responsible for the deaths in the pogrom in Kristallnacht and the concentration camps. According to “How Did the Nazis and Their Collaborators Implement the Holocaust?”, “On January 20, 1942, Reinhard Heydrich, the chief of Germany’s Security Police, held a secret meeting known as the Wannsee Conference. Leading police and civilian officials discussed the continuing implementation of the ‘Final Solution’.” The SS officers had a secret meeting to continue the plan of the “Final Solution”.

Who were some key people involved with the Holocaust? Adolf hitler was the Führer of Nazi Germany. He is the one who started the Nazi army and helped in the making on the Holocaust and other concentration camps. Heinrich Himmler had command of the majority of the concentration camp. Guards were also had a big role in this because the Nazi guards would kill people daily.

The Holocaust, an event in which six million people were innocently murdered. German Fuher Adolf Hitler targeted all Jewish citizens because he believed that they were a threat to the German community. He believed that Germans were superior and wanted to remove other groups of non-Aryans from existence. He decided on the final plan to solve the Jewish question in 1941 and started planning it in January of 1942.
