Informative Speech On Rosa Parks

Everyone knows who Rosa Parks is. Even if people do not remember when they heard of her, they know for sure that she made an impact on lives for blacks everywhere. Parks did this because she knew that blacks deserved better conditions and her impact definitely reached one step closer to equal treatment. Another woman who impacted the condition for African Americans was Sojourner Truth. She was born in 1797 and “was an African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist best-known for her speech on racial inequalities, ‘Ain’t I a Woman?’”

For example, a little black woman who refused to stand on a bus showed civil disobedience because she believed in the rights of African Americans. This woman’s name was Rosa Parks. In 1955, on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man. This act went against all social norms of the time and sparked the majority of civil rights debates. Through her act of civil disobedience, change occurred, and the first steps toward rights for African Americans were being taken.

In a movement called the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a woman named Rosa Parks sat at the front of a public bus. When Rosa refused to give her seat up to a white person, she was arrested. The community planned a bus boycott to take place on the fifth of December. Instead of the expected 60% turnout, almost 90% of the community boycotted the buses. Soon, national news was talking about the movement.

From the beginning of mankind, women have been labeled as inferior to men not only physically, but mentally and intellectually as well. Only in 1920 did women gain the right to voice their opinions in government elections while wealthy white men received the expected right since the creation of the United States. A pioneer in women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony publicly spoke out against this hypocrisy in a time when women were only seen as child bearers and household keepers. In History, during a time of racial tribulation and social inequality, people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks are remembered for their act of peaceful civil disobedience that changed the way Americans treated and looked at Black people. Martin Luther King Jr.'s influential speeches and powerful protests are what got Whites to finally recognize the indifference between two groups of people. It's because of Rosa Parks' stand for her right to a front row bus seat that got the Whites to allow equal treatment for the colored people. This movement had just begun when the Supreme Court ruled that segregation in public transportation unconstitutional after the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. This boycott all started when a woman named Rosa Parks decided to sit in the seat that was meant for whites. She didn't intend to start such an uprising but by accident she did. She ended up getting arrested for not following the law like she was supposed and this caused more of a uproar from all African Americans who couldn't stand the inequality that was happening around them. Rosa Parks sparked the protest named the bus boycott that leads a big part of this dreadful time in history. After she got out of jail she went to MLK Jr. and did a speech that influenced 90 percent of blacks not ride the bus and made the government lose a lot of money. The bus boycott was originated in Montgomery and this happened on Dec 5, 1855, and ended on Dec 20, 1856.
