When you hear the word “outsourcing” how do you feel? Most will feel a general sense of negativity from the word and what it stands for. Yet, there is not much thought for the benefits to outsourcing. A. Outsourcing is an important process that continues to be practiced by large companies and is necessary for several different reasons. 1. Outsourcing happens to increase productivity. a) According to Teresa Davis, author of the 2015 book 17 benefits of outsourcing, outsourcing leads to workers being assigned appropriate projects and less cases of underutilization. b) With lower labor costs, companies can maximize work hours. 2. Outsourcing allows hiring of more qualified individuals to relieve the workload of employees with too many responsibilities. B. The benefits of Outsourcing also extend beyond large companies and to American consumers as well. 1. Another very important benefit that comes from outsourcing is greater access to innovation. a) More competition leads to better products for consumers. b) A larger market allows for a greater choice of unique products.
