Eric shows signs of insecurity, because of his parents relationship is so unhealthy, he doesn’t believe he will ever have one, that good relationship are impossible. Not having anyone to support him emotionally while growing up he doesn’t know to make friends, this insecurity is also due to that fact his been unstable, his changed many schools, not giving him a chance to interact with others. And because all of this he is not sure about his sexual orientation, which makes him really anxious to not know the answer in the movement. He feels lonely, he mentions when he was little he always tried to please his father, but that never seemed to work. In the book Old School by Tobias Wolff there are examples of where Tobias is a not so innocent boy. He is often times a trouble-maker and very rowdy. However, there is a passage in the book the hints at otherwise. Deep down Tobias is more innocent than his antics lead on.

In the novel Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, the author visualizes Louie Zamperini’s experiences in the war and what he does to diminish the obstacles that faced him. Through Louie’s conflicts he builds his character from the atrocities he endured. In doing so he grows and develops as a person and learns the value of life.
In the story the Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst the narrator knows what he did was wrong. In the end, he realized that his own pride was the downfall for his own little brother. For wanting a normal little brother and not a crippled one. As stated on page 2 “ It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who possibly was not all there was unbearable, so I began to make my plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow”. Clearly, in this sentence, it shows that the narrator would rather have no brother at all than having one that is crippled.
In the book, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette talks about her life growing up, along with the struggles and memories. In the article, “Why Losing Control Can Make You Happier” by Raj Raghunathan, his perspective is that being overly controlling can make you unhappy. I know this because the article says, “Being overly controlling of outcomes like being overly controlling of others also lowers happiness. ”(Raghunathan 2). Jeannette’s perspective of order and chaos is not like other people, her perspective is normal to her, she's used to it.
The story of a soldiers and his team out on a mission and only one survives. In the book “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell, Gulad is a hero becuase showed that he could persevere, be unselfish, and that he has determination. Gulad is the thirty-three year old son of the village elder and resident police chief. One of the reasons that Gulab is a hero is because he displayed unselfishness. ( Lutterell 337).
If your civil rights were taken away, would you fight to protect your rights or watch and let your civil rights drift away? Marcus, a main character in the book Little Brother, was near the bay bridge in San Francisco when it was blown up by terrorists. He was blamed for it by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Due to the bombing, the city was put under heavy watch by the DHS and everyone was treated as a potential terrorist, especially Marcus. Throughout the book, Marcus fought against the DHS for the rights to privacy of himself and the civilians of San Francisco.

Pride is a dangerous thing that can destroy your life in a blink of an eye. One of the best examples of this is the story “The Scarlet Ibis,” written by James Hurst. This story is about a boy and his younger brother “Doodle.” Doodle is very far behind all the other kids his age and his brother is determined to catch him up. After teaching him one thing his pride gets the better of him and one day he pushes too hard and the worst happens.
Amir can not be forgiven for how he treats Hassan because Hassan is loyal to Amir but Amir isn’t loyal and wouldn’t help him with anything as shown in the book. Amir just stood at the end of the valley while Hassan was rapped. Hassan stood up for Amir when kids were bullying him. Hassan shot one of the bullies in the eye with a slingshot. This is said in the book “But perhaps you didn’t notice that I’m the one holding the slingshot.

A breeze picks up as Santiago asks the wind for help. The wind argues that Santiago differs too much from it but Santiago contends that he desires to reach all corners of the world just like the wind. The wind understands but doesn’t know what to do. Santiago tells the wind that love can empower it to do anything. The wind feels like Santiago demeans what it already knows how to do.
