Is War Ever Justified Essay

1776 marked a significant year in American history. That was the year in which the U.S. declared its independence from its fathering nation, Britain. Britain did not just give America the freedom, America fought for their freedom. American broke away for numerous reasons. This paper will explain why the colonists broke away and whether or not their reasons for waging war and breaking justified.

World War Two was a long extended period of fighting, Grief, and Death. Allied forces slowly gained naval and air fights in the Pacific. Soldiers had to deal with harsh rain conditions, Mud, and Humid heat. US soldiers were not prepared for the heat condition, and they had to carry equipment everywhere they went. The water and food supply was rationed to save food.

The United States entered WW2 after the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl harbor in 1941. To inspire the Japanese surrender in 1945 , and ultimately end the war, the US dropped the world's first two atomic bombs on the civilian population of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since the surrender, there has been debate over whether the decision to use atomic weapons was justified and whether it was the only way to end the war. The use of this atomic weapon was not justified and it was not the only way to inspire surrender and allow the U.S to win the war.

Some people still wonder if war can be justified by its principles or cause. It can be argued that war can be justified due to the principles of freedom and justice that soldiers are willing to die for. However, many argue against this saying that war should be avoided at all costs due to collateral damage and the massive loss of innocent life. In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, Tim faces the biggest dilemma of his life when he has to decide whether to side with his brother who believes in the principles of war or his father who believes war should be avoided at all costs. War is a conflict that has been seen by every human civilization to some extent, and is sure to be seen by those in the future. These hostile situations can be caused by a variety of situations, including land, resources, philosophy, and religion. Though the exact cause and result of each war is different, there are ways to gauge the effectiveness and permissibility of the actions of governments and armed forces during war. This is the premise of Just War Theory. Just War is philosophy of rating a war as ethically just or not, which has three basic requirements along with a scale for comparison.

War is a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different ups within a nation or state. Like several wars the United States has fought, this war had its strong supporters and its critics. Three reasons why the United States was NOT justified in going to war with Mexico are: President Polk believed in Manifest Destiny while others didn’t believe in him or God. U.S. should have never crossed when Mexico didn’t give permission. Slave owners brought slaves even though it was Slave-free land.

When talking about war, there are many books with few answers to what war truly is. Barbara Ehrenreich brings forth not only the possibilities towards understanding war but also the passion people from history have had towards it. One key issue she brings to light is humanities love for war, so much so that people would use excuses like holy wars to justify their need to fight in a war. She declares that war is as muddled as the issue of diseases and where diseases came from around 200 years ago. More so than that she even goes further on to state that these rituals that date back to prehistoric times are the cause of human nature during times of war rather than human instinct.

As many think war is a problem solver, it also starts several small problems in itself. Personally, I have never been a fan of the idea of any kind of war. The thought of thousands dying, millions of dollars being used, and home lands being destroyed, just doesn’t make sense. In the book I found a small part that I believe shows how war is a waste.

War is complicated. The reason people go to war is never black and white. To me, there is no way to have a complete yes or no opinion as to if the United States should ever go to war. When I think of all the reasons that we as a nation have gone to war, some make more sense than others, but you have to wonder if every time we have initiated a war the cost was really worth what we were fighting for. Was the loss of numerous American lives worth it?

Sometimes countries go to war for no reason, an example of this is the War of Mexico. The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because, they did not organize borderlines with Mexico, Manifest Density was not believed by everyone, and all the US wanted was California. Justified is defined as having, done for, or marked by a good or legitimate reason. Texas won its independence in 1836. America’s wars are often very controversial. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because of three main reasons: Americans were killed, Texas was already annexed, and Manifest Destiny allows it.

Was The U.S. Justified? Did you know that after the annexation of Texas, The United States was going to continue its path of Manifest Destiny and take over California? Leading up to the Mexican-American War, the war was between the United States and Mexico in 1844. The war started when the United States tried to invade Texas from Mexico. The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexico claims that the annexation of Texas was illegal and violated security reasons, the United States straight up attacked Mexico, and the United States broke Mexico’s law by bringing slaves into Mexican land.

When certain principles apply to warfare, most moralists argue that the means to do so is foolish due to the disruptive nature of war. But in other terms some argue that without put thought into taking our enemies lives, we cause them to become pest that could be completely destroyed without noble consideration (Dalziel). The aerial vehicles known as drones tend to strike fear into the hearts of some people. Although drones have become very successful in their mission to put a stop to the violence that has consumed the Middle East. People are now starting to fear that the success of this aerial vehicle would lead to a demand for it in the United States.
