Ish’s strengths and weaknesses can be seen through his perceptions of other people. His personality is defined by his attitude towards Joey, Milt and Ann, and Charlie. Ish is capable of detecting what is good for him and what is not but he is not confident that his feelings are correct. Ish’s strength is that he can recognize what is good for himself and the tribe. After a long time of debating with himself, Ish decides that “Joey! He is the one!”(152). Ish can realize that Joey is what the Tribe needs in a leader. Optimistic thinking fuels humbleness in the characters during the darkest of times. By clearly displaying kindness, Hans Hubermann, Max Vandenburg, and Ilsa Hermann brought up others as well as themselves. Hans was humble despite being poor and going through hard times. Max was selfless despite having nothing himself. Frau Hermann was humble despite losing a son.

Not all literature is necessarily true, but finding out the truth of the tale the author has chosen to share from their heart or imagination is what makes literature so intriguing. Ishmael Beah, a young man from Sierra Leone, shares his life experiences as a child soldier, how it was to be captured, to fight on the front lines, and the process of rehabilitation. On the other end, is a man who chose to be a soldier, Marcus Luttrell, member of SEAL team 10. Marcus Luttrell shows the great feats that the human body is capable of enduring.
It was a feeling that some could relate to and if you could not you still felt saddened. This is one of those episodes that could be watched several times, and that feeling will still be there. “Papa’s got a brand new excuse” reverts back to the stereotype that all black young men fathers leave them.
