It is 1955 and, there is the hit and Robinson takes off to home base. The ball is thrown, can Robinson make it. The crowd going wild, Robison slides to reach the base, and oh, oh my gosh he is safe, safe ,safe! The Dodgers finally won , and we owe it to Jackie Robinson. That is right, Jackie Robinson got his first world series in 1955. Do you know who Jackie Robinson is? Well, he was the first African American to join the MLB, outside of a segregation group. This was big because no black ever joined the MLB until he did because he showed the black people that it was possible to be a professional baseball player. When he did this, many people went against him. They told him things such as, you don't belong here and get out of here. However, others cheered him on such as his wife, friends, and other African Americans. Jackie Robinson later died on October 24, 1972 at the age of 52. He will definitely always be remembered and never be forgotten.
Born in January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia, Jackie Robinson was raised by a single mother and was the youngest of five children. His mother was Mallie Robinson and his father was Jerry Robinson. Growing up, his family was very poor and were constantly in debt. His family worked on a farm and were sharecroppers. As sharecroppers, they owed most of their crops to a white owner. They were only allowed to keep a small portion of the crops. Before Jackie was born Mallie begged Jerry to get a better deal in which they would be able to keep half the crops. Not a small portion of the crops. When Jackie was just six months old his father, Jerry Robinson, decided to go somewhere else. Jackie had attended John Muir High School and Pasadena Junior College. Finally in 1955, Jackie had helped the Dodgers complete the best goal possible in baseball, which is to win the World Series. After being defeated in four other series matchups, the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees. He later helped his team win one more National Pennant that season. He was then traded to the New York Giants. He soon decided to retire on January 5, 1957 with a batting average of .311. After retiring from baseball he became very active in business and continued as an active social exchange. He helped establish the bank known as the, African American-owned and -controlled Freedom Bank. He served on the board of the NAACP until 1967 and also became the first African American to be included in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. In the year the Dodgers had finally retired his uniform number, 42. During his later years, Jackie proceeded to lobby for other greater integration in sports. He unfortunately died from heart problems and diabetes on October 24,1972 in Stamford Connecticut. This shocked many people and made them very sad. His mother, father, wife, children and many other people were without a doubt, heartbroken and left speechless. So people will not forget Jackie Robinson his wife, Rachel Isum, established the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which is dedicated to honor his life and work.
