The main character Jamal Wallace in the movie “Finding Forrester” tried to blend in the commencement, but once he was given the chance he showed his true potential. Although he is feeling like he is not welcomed nor worthy of being in the situation he is now because of what friends, peers, and teachers do and say. Constant conflict with his skin tone, growing up in the Bronx, and his potential stirs up threw out the movie.
William Forrester someone who came to be a great friend of Jamal's also caused him to feel dragged down as well. William foster was a man with many words, who also kept to himself. For example when Jamal asked Forrester why he is a legend at the school and Forrester shouted “The purpose of a question is to obtain information that matters to you”. Showing how quickly he stop any personal information from getting out. While it's also clear Jamal just wants to help and have someone he can connect with Forrester will not

He is the kind of person who at the time would be scared if a black man from the Bronx could know and do so much. He felt that Jamal seeing the circumstances could not be as brilliant as what he turned in. So he continuously looked for any way to say Jamal was a cheater. The moment that Jamal took a stand after being told “Perhaps your skills...do extend a bit farther than basketball.” he showed Crawford he could keep up finishing quotes the professor would say and saying the person whom the quote was from. That proved he was actually quiet intelligent and beating Crawford at his own game lead to Jamal getting kicked out of his
The West Memphis Three was a trail convicting three teenagers: Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley of killing three little boys; Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Chris Byers. This trail was considered to be a satanic ritual because Damien Echols wasn’t considered normal to the other members of society in his town. He did “dabble in many religions” and Satanism being one with admiring photos of torture and death, but it was not a satanic ritual. The court used members that were far removed from any alleged "Satanic Panic" in West Memphis to give the defendants a better shot at a fair trial and unbiased juries. Damien Echols was sentenced to solitary confinement for eight years from his 20 years in prison.
Through his childhood and teenage years he faced a hard time dealing with racism. You’re probably asking yourself right now, why is this important. Well, this is important because this is a great thing that has happened in your nation’s history. This broke the the split of blacks’ and whites’. We will talk about that another time.
The meaning behind his statement is, if people suspect him to think over everything that he’s already done then they need to realize that he actually has a job to do instead of thinking about the activities he’s already done. In his intro he also includes an amazing thesis statement. A thesis statement is normally located in the first paragraph and is a statement that explains what the writer’s topic is and what the writer’s viewpoint is on that topic. His thesis statement in his “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, is, “But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.”(pg.1). In his thesis he’s telling his audience that he wants to show his point about the criticisms that whites put on African Americans were wrong.
He explains that he will fight unjust laws, even if it means spending a night in jail. He is willing to take the penalty for breaking a law, but is unwilling to let unjust laws degrade and take over African American’s
He had seen firsthand how African Americans experienced brutality growing up. He had seen this when Jess Alexander Helms a police officer brutalized a black woman, and dragged her to the jail house. He had explained it as “the way a caveman would club and drag his sexual prey”. This shows how little rights African Americans had in these days because he was unable to do anything. All of this happened while other African American individuals walked away hurriedly.
Finding Forrester: A Cultural Synopsis Finding Forrester tells the story of Jamal Wallace, an African American high school student living in the Bronx and attending a low-income high school. He meets an extraordinary but extremely antisocial writer who helps him to learn life lessons. There are many cultural references in Finding Forrester, including cultural shock, cultural norms, social hierarchy, and counterculture.
He wrote this piece to express his important opinion about the effect of racism and how he’s viewed as a man of color. He talks about his first encounter of racism when he was young man in college and was assumed to be a mugger or killer just because of skin. “It was in echo of that terrified woman’s footfalls that I first began to know the unwieldy inheritance I’d come into the ability to alter public space in ugly ways.” I feel that the author is trying to connect to his vast audience of people who don’t understand what it is like to a black man in society. Later he contemplated that he rejected or shunned by the white race collectively as a dangerous man.
Forrest Gump takes place in modern history of the United States, emphasizing race relations between blacks and whites, disability and southern culture. Beginning in the south during the 1950’s, the movie highlights segregation, and ends with the way African-Americans are portrayed today. Forrest Gump begins with the main character sitting at a bus stop, and it isn’t until Forrest speaks that the audience realizes he has a disability. Throughout the movie Forrest is portrayed as a simple, white southern male from Alabama who has a below average intelligence. The movie takes places during a significant era between the 1950 's and 1980’s, and recalls different events of Forrest’s life, underlining how he surpasses the expectations society had for him.
“You were born into a society which spelled out with brutal clarity, and in as many ways as possible, that you were a worthless human being. You were not expected to aspire to excellence”. His letter also discussed the idea of discovering one's self not through the sentiments of others, but rather through the conclusions of oneself. I feel like he is not just cautioning his nephew, but the black community in general of such society. I believe that his letter was a plea to the black community to “accept the whites with love” for “they are, in effect, still trapped in a history which they do not understand”, while in the same token, not giving in to their stereotypes of black identity like his father did.
Bluford’s background and accomplishments prepared him to be a role model to other african americans. Bluford studied and worked really hard to make his dream come true. Bluford had to study

The climax of his career subsisted in the midst of national turmoil. During this time, African Americans were trying to define their Blackness and their humanity in a land where they were treated second class. Author Wallace Terry put in words the thoughts that spun through the minds of the African American community,
Many African Americans including Jackie Robinson have suffered through difficulties due to their difference in race. All throughout history, many African Americans had to live life with caution because they didn't have the same rights that other white people did. In “The Noble Experiment” it talks about how Robinson and other African Americans had to be on the lookout to make sure that what they said or did wouldn’t affect them later on. If an African American was caught disrespecting a white person then the people would assume that they were a danger to the rest of the people. If they were given the opportunity to have a career they had to make sure that they chose the correct decision.
" we find out during his testimony that he feels sorry for Mayella and only stops by to help her because she seems to have no one else to do so. That statement Exhibits that he is just a kind and generous man that was trying to help but instead he got judged and accused for it, more than likely because he was a black man which meant he was thought of as
One of the biggest issues that called my attention is the presence of racism in the movie. Even though that presence did not surprise me, it was for me very obvious and very representative of the “American” society. For that reason, I am going to comment about the appearance of racism in the movie Finding Forrester. The first scene that really called my attention is the one in which a white man appears with his BMW and prejudices Jamal and black people in general.
