The Eye of the Storm Jane Elliot was a teacher for a class of eight year olds at a school in Riceville, Iowa. Racism was more of a problem in 1968 than it is today, and Jane was trying to demonstrate to her students what it felt like to be a black person in their society at that time. Her experiment was ran very successfully as her students physically felt how African Americans felt in their society during that time. She separated her class into brown eyes and blue eyes. The first day, the students with blue eyes were better than the students with brown eyes and the opposite the next day. The students who were ranked lower than the others had to wear collars to make it more obvious that they were ranked lower than their classmates. She had her students do flashcards on the days they were ranked low and then the days they were ranked higher. The students got nearly two minutes slower on the days they wore the collars. This shows how much being discriminated on effects a person confidence level. The students stated that they were distracted by the collars on their necks, which shows how blacks must feel in their everyday lives. Mary Mebane recalls as freshmen was stopped by the chairman’s wife because of how well Mary scored on her verbal examination compared to the white people at her school. She knows that the chairman 's wife thought it was a fluke and she speaks to her, but Mebane knows that this is out of an act of racism. Mebane then shows African people how their people are just viewed as numbers. She also shows the stereotype how light skin students were smarter people than darker students but what was even worse to the eyes of the school is that she is a dark- skinned woman. She continues to target African women with the example of her friend Lucy which was a, “Dark Dark skinned” girl that chose to hang around a light skin girl named Patricia.

For Jane Elliot’s third grade class in a small town in Iowa discrimination was unheard of because there was only white Christians living in the town. She separated her class based on eye color, so one day she made the kids with blue eyes be superior and the kids with brown eyes be inferior. In this chapter a student named Reggie was being bullied because he was the only African American in the class; he felt like he didn’t belong in the school. One day Reggie was standing with a group of his classmates, when two police officers come to him and starts verbally and physically abusing him. The other students try to help, but they couldn’t, the assault stops when Reggie runs home. This injustice unified the school, everyone knew that Reggie didn’t deserve what happened to him and they wanted to help him get justices. Reggie and his parents did press charges and with the help of his classmates and community he was able to receive some justices.

It was originally set to be a category 1 hurricane and wasn 't supposed to be that bad of a natural disaster. Although a number of adding factors made Hurricane Harvey a catastrophic event, the hurricane increased levels as it reached land which was one of the biggest impacts. The main two factors that made Harvey one of the most destructive natural disasters to ever hit the United States was all the recorder rainfall over the city of Houston and the release of the Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
The documentary titled, “ A Class Divided” introduces us to the experiment made in an elementary school in Iowa by the schoolteacher named Jane Elliot. The documentary begins with Mrs. Elliot reuniting with the students who she did this experiment with the first time. The students are much older now, and they willingly want to watch the experiment that they were part of when they were elementary kids. The experiment was done days after the death of Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. Elliot has always thought about doing the eye color experiment, but she was never sure of when to do it. She asked her third grade student if it would be interesting to see what would happen if they were judged by their eye color.
Race exists as long as we believe it exists, but really, it's just a classification system developed by people. It has no meaning or value apart from what we determine it to have. According to researchers there is no genetics for division of human ethnicity, in the sense that different groups inherit distinctive physical traits for example hair, eye, and skin color, race is a reality. Race can be used in prejudice discriminative way to create a barrier, built within people’s minds in society. Which leads one race being superior to another and of there being pure races, race is a myth.
The experiment was executed well. Yet, there are unethical practices happened during the experiment. First, the participants were not fully informed about the experiment. The researchers did not explain to the participants the processes in conducting the experiment. The participants were not informed that they would be arrested by cops in their homes.
Jane Elliot was a third grade teacher that tried an experiment with her class to educate her students on the effects of discrimination. Elliot separated her class based on their eye color in order to explain how people are treated differently in the world. She tried to find a way to explain racism in the world in a way that third graders would understand. I was actually surprised when I heard there had been an altercation on the playground the day of the experiment. A blue eyed student teased a brown eyed student which resulted in the brown eyed student engaging in a physical altercation with the blue eyed student.
The brown eyed student had such a boost of confidence their academic score was up and they were trying harder to hold to the title of having brown eyes. On the other hand, the blue eyed students grades were down and they kept this sad era throughout the day. The next day Mrs. Elliott toke back what she about the blue eye students and put it onto the brown eyed students; Mrs. Elliott realize that now that the blues were the more superior they were a lot kinder to the brown eyed students their grades and sprites were lifted and she couldn’t believe the sufficient of change of the students. Although the experimentation of animals has furthered medical knowledge, it should not be allowed because it is brutal and animals are unable to give their approval. In order to do a study on humans it must be authorized by them, where animals are unable to give consent, which strikes questions in the world of science on whether this is morally acceptable. Although animal experimentation can result in saving the lives of millions, many find it to be cruel and unjust. Seeing as animals are unable to speak for themselves, they are still able to express their emotions through their behavior.
Modern day classrooms were unheard and unseen of more than 50 years ago. If we were to travel back to the past and step foot in classrooms of that time, one theme would run throughout. More than 50 years ago, classrooms were segregated and spoke volumes about the oppression of the colored population. Before the Civil Rights Movement of 1964 and during slavery, classrooms were split up based on color and were limited resources depending on the color of their skin. (Graglia, 2014)

Black people were perceived as the lowest class and throughout the story people would treat them as if they were dirt. Being in the lowest class, they would have to do all of the terrible work. They never had a chance to get a good job and be successful because of the white people.
The Storm Lightning crashes overhead as I race back into the house, dripping wet. I was just returning back from an adventure in the woods. The storm was unexpected, even the forecasters had never expected it. Luckily, I managed to make it back inside safely.
