There were many ways the Southern states tried to deny equal rights to African Americans. For example, the Jim Crow Laws were created in the 1890s by such southern states as Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina,and Florida, segregating the races in such places such as railroads, restaurants, education, and libraries. I can totally relate to the Blacks back in the day, how hard they had to go through because of some very evil people who think they just can control anything they want. Ever wondered how the Jim Crow Laws were resisted by the Black Louisianians? During Reconstruction, Black Louisianians had gained the ability to vote and some of them were able to actually hold political office. At the end of Reconstruction, Black Louisianians had gained limited rights and opportunities. During the Jim Crow Laws, Black Louisianians had gained the ability to have separate facilities as long as they were equal. The Jim Crow Laws were sadly an unbelieve event that took place in the 1800’s of American history. These laws targeted African American males, giving literary test and asking unreasonable questions about the U.S.A that many white males couldn't even answer, to many not able to read nor write causing many black males “unable” to vote. The Crow Laws also made segregation legal such as, white and black only schools and movie theaters. White schools, movie theaters, and etc,.. where far better than the African American builds which were often run down or poorly funded. You may think to yourself that it was so far back that in today's culture, those laws do not have any effect anymore, However you might be wrong.

By the implementation of the inferiority among black people compared to their white counterparts, instilled a vitriol that was and still is extremely devastating to a more equal future. Shortly following the civil war, the south being bitter in the aftermath of surrender, took it among themselves to create the segregation laws. Laws that came to be known as the incredibly devious Jim Crow laws. These insidious Laws were enforced by the former Confederate southern states, which began in the late 1870's and early 1880's, that actually made it legal to segregate blacks from whites. The Jim Crow laws confined legal rights of black people to be designated their own colored public facilities, as well as their schools, even to water drinking fountains.

After reading the Jim Crow pieces, I conclude that the government and the people had a backwards way of thinking about race. One reason I think this is based on the scenario in the picture. In the V., E. picture the African American man was dressed in rags while Caucasian people in the background wearing fancy new clothes walked right by him without giving him a second glance. The second way I came to this conclusion was how the article painted the picture of how life was back then for African Americans. For example, the Supreme Court undermined the constitution so Caucasians could legally discriminate African Americans (Pilgrim 2).

Jim Crows Laws actually had a huge effect on Americans in their daily lives. All colored and whites were split up everywhere. If a sign said white only coloreds would get in trouble if they go into that place. Whites had way nicer things from hotels, theatres, drinking fountains, restaurants... etc. Colored people had it really hard every day living like this.
