John Quincy Adams John Quincy Adams, the 6th president of the United States, became president in a confusing and indecisive election. Because no candidate had a majority of the electoral votes, the House was left to choose as stated in the Twelfth Amendment. But, his victory haunted him for the entirety of his term and was a major factor in not being re-elected. During the time he was elected, the Federalists had collapsed as a national opposition party, and nearly every national political figure was a member of the same party-the Jeffersonian Republicans. Despite starting his presidency on a difficult note, John Quincy Adams still had a very good start to his political journey. Political skill is an essential characteristic to have as a leader and it is important for presidents to have the ability to understand others' work and to use it to enhance objectives. In order to have this skill, one must be very advanced in the knowledge of politics. In 1787, Adams graduated from Harvard College and continued to study law years after, passing the bar exam just three years later. His advanced knowledge and law skills demonstrate his high cognitive intelligence in the political field. He was one of the most cultivated and educated men to serve as president. Before the 1824 election, John Quincy Adams served under President Monroe and is known as being one of America's great Secretaries of State. He contributed to many great achievements like the Monroe Doctrine and obtaining the cession of the Floridas. Without his efforts, none of us would be going to Florida for spring
