John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men: Analysis

We read an interesting book called Of Mice And Men, that was written in 1937 by John Steinbeck. Then we watched the movie about the book. In this review, I will tell you the good and the bad thing about the movie. I give this movie three and a half stars.

Of Mice and Men Essay Of course money and power is something so great to have, people often get caught up in their own world of making themselves happy that they forget about family and true friends that are much greater than money and power. Money and power comes and goes, while friendship can stay for a lifetime. Money and power is hard to get and even harder to keep it, while friendship is easy to find and easy to keep forever (Compound). Money and power will leave you lonesome and make you somebody you’re not just to please people, while friendship has somebody there to comfort you anytime, make you believe in yourself and bring the good out of you even if that means sacrificing a lot. Friendship is far superior than money and power ever was (simple).

How does an ordinary group of people turn into bloodless killers? The author of Ordinary Men, Christopher Browning offers the most captivating argument towards how it is possible for ordinary men to commit extraordinary atrocities. This paper will analyze the different viewpoints of what caused ordinary men to commit murder. To better understand this issue one must understand the sides of argument.

In the justice and the wheels of history, the section goes into detail of how history and conflicts cycle and repeat, almost always in the name of justice. Great wars and battles occurred when the people involved readily claim their actions and motivations out of justice, and how it must be served out of an obligated sense of morality; this is illustrated in how we as people identify with being right and just out of suffering and privilege, and how said urge for justice is used in creating new rounds of conflict. Said sense of justice looks at how polarized group thinking could become, and how concern for justice affects loyalty and group bias. Using World War II and the Holocaust as a respectful and historical example of a tragedy, this is shown in how, in the rise to power, Adolf Hitler used the lingering but potent resentment

Do you think a person would put there self’s in harms way and get close to a stranger. Hear of someone being murdered by john Steinbeck. Men of mice there are two men they travel and she gets mixed up in it badly. Curlys wife is to blame because she provoked it and put herself in that situation. Curlys wife is being nosy and she doesn’t need to put her nose into everything.

The boys on the island needed to build shelters, watch fires, be rescued; but, they only want to eat, to hunt, to kill. The accuracy of this picture is proven in the study of the human species, specifically in the tendency to kill one another; “Researchers compiled data on lethal violence within 1,024 species of mammals… The analysis shows that deaths caused by other members of the same species is responsible for 0.3% of all deaths on average for all mammals, but the rate of lethal violence among Homo sapiens is 7 times higher” (Fields). Although a successful human civilization should not kill itself and deplete its own population, human beings have the highest tendency to kill each other. Such civilizations lose control and fall into poverty and sorrow.

I found Roger’s (Matthew) excuses very intriguing, it was thoughts that never crossed through my mind. Rogers’s perspective was totally opposite from the prosecutor’s perspective. In Roger’s shoes, he wanted to end the conflict between Ralph, Piggy and Jack so he leaned on the lever to push the boulder which would interrupt them and hopefully stop them from fighting. On the other hand, the prosecutor’s point of view is that Roger leaned on the boulder to purposely hit Piggy so that he would die.

Replacing classic novels with more contemporary ones will be beneficial in English Class because of the usage of language. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses an abundant amount of swearing, mostly by the characters. Out of twenty reviews on commonsensemedia.org, a review site where teens get to put in input about various books, eighteen of them warned future readers of there being too much profanity. It was just the culture back then but is it really what we want to be teaching in schools, that characters that make great decisions can also swear up a storm? Newer books are able to filter out much of this foul language with the use of many different editorial processes and critical responses.

Introduction Many psychologists and researchers have for many years tried to explain what makes normal human beings become evil and become perpetrators of evil. The study of a normal human being becoming a perpetrator of evil has almost become it’s own branch of psychology. There are many examples of evil actions in this world, which has led to a lot of research of the human mind; where evil is born. Hitler, Anders Breivik, and Jim Jones are just a few examples of the many evil human minds we have seen in this world. All people, who were thought to hold the same mindset as everyone else.

Curley’s wife is a representation of women in 1930’s America. Women were considered weak, useless and vulnerable - just like black, old or disabled people. We notice this when she walks in the harness room, where Crooks stayed due to discrimination against black people, asking where Curley is (whom we then find out, is a pathetic excuse to interact with the ranch workers). As she looks around, she noticed the boss ‘left all the weak ones’ there. Before she came, Candy and Lennie were explaining about their dream house to Candy.

Would you be able to kill your own little brother, or would you rather let him die naturally It started when they got to the farm, Candy introduced himself and showed Lennie and George around the bunk house and told them a little about the people there. Shortly after Lennie and George were introduced to The Boss and George told The Boss their story, and explained why they were so late.

Before the novel begins, Lennie and George were fired from their old job because Lennie was touching a girl’s dress the same way he would pet a mouse. As the story progresses, the bus driver dropped them off four miles away from the ranch where their new job is located. While walking towards the ranch they find a spot to spend the night. This spot is in the middle of the woods where there is a river, wildlife, and trees everywhere. Compared to all the ranches and fields this feels like an ideal place to stay the night.

The Monitor on Psychology article “What makes good people do bad things?” by Melissa Dittmann analyzes the results of the Stanford Prison Experiment conducted by Stanford psychology professor Phillip Zimbardo in 1971 and discusses what the experiment can tell us about human nature and what causes humans to be evil. In the novel “Lord of the Flies” the author William Golding discusses the effects of the theories mentioned in the article by creating his own fictional experiment with children stranded on an island during a nuclear war. Throughout his novel Golding explores the focus of Dittmann’s article; that environments and situations can bring out the evil that is inside all of us. People can act good or bad depending on their environment, and these actions are not entirely their fault because when people are not held accountable for their actions their more violent natures are revealed.

We all know that Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a work of fiction, but he writes it so realistically that it could be very easily believed that it was actually a nonfiction book .The three most believable passages of text come from pages 25, 26, and 31. First off, page 25. Here we meet Curley and he is described as, “...a thin young man with a brown face, with brown eyes and a head of tightly curled hair. He wore a work glove on his left hand, and, like the boss, he wore high-heeled boots.”
