In Brutus' speech he uses logos to try to reason with the crowd whilst Antony uses pathos to control their emotions. Brutus explains that for the betterment of Rome Caesar had to die or else he would ruin the country and destroy the great empire. He at first has everyone on his side, that is of course until Antony speaks. When Antony speaks he gives examples of how Caesar wasn't going to ruin Rome and in fact how he was the best leader they had ever had. He says that Brutus and Cassius are murderers and that's all they are.

Brutus believes killing Caesar, results to the only solution to help and protect Rome, which relates back to his conflict. Overall, Brutus’ internal conflict involves deciding to kill Caesar, or not, because he does not necessarily want to kill Caesar, but sees it as the only way to protect Rome and its people. His love for Rome and the Roman people proves greater than his love for Caesar, who he somewhat looks to as a friend.

Julius Caesar was the Dictator of Rome in 42 BC who accomplished many things. Many people believed that he was a hero, but Julius Caesar was a very ambitious dictator and was more of a villain than a hero. Julius Caesar was a villain because he didn’t think first before doing something, he forced the Senate to name him dictator for life and he also was a glory hound and put his needs before the republic. One character who uses ethos, pathos and logos is Cassius to manipulate Brutus into joining the conspirators. Brutus also uses ethos, pathos and logo to justify his killing of Caesar. Last, Mark Antony uses ethos, pathos and logo to manipulate the Plebeians against Brutus and the conspirators. Thus, Cassius, Brutus and Mark Antony all use ethos, pathos and logos to manipulate one another and bring the people of Rome to their sides, resulting in total chaos.

After the assassination Antony eventually made his way to Caesar’s house where he collected Caesar’s papers and more importantly his will. Antony then “Realizing that Caesar’s assassins meant him no harm and so there was no threat posed to his life after all, Antony now recovered his courage” (Corrigan 124). The conspirators were emboldened by Caesar’s death and seized the capital of Rome along with an escort of gladiators for protection. However, the conspirators overestimated the desire of the people to be rid of Caesar and return to the old ways of the Roman republic. According to Isaac Asimov Rome was very quiet and the people believed that chaos and retribution from Caesar’s supporters was to come next.

In this scene Caesar has been murdered by the conspirators including Brutus. Brutus is one of Caesar's good friends who is driven by honor; who thought Caesar’s ambition was going to be the end of Rome. Antony is a very loyal friend of Caesar’s who does not agree with the conspirators. Brutus and Antony are both smart well thought out characters. They desire to persuade the commoners to their side of the situation.

Cassius began the rebellion against Caesar, and then developed a plan to make Brutus think he need to kill Caesar and become the leader, and finally as well as the other conspirators, Cassius contributed to stabbing Caesar. In the beginning of the play Cassius is trying to convince Brutus that there is nothing special about Caesar, he is “Like a Colossus, and [they] petty men Walk under his huge legs”(I, II, 137).

Following Julius Caesar's death, Mark Antony uses many different rhetorical devices such as pathos and ethos in his speech that help convince the Plebeians to go against the conspirators. Attempting to draw the emotions out of the plebeians, Mark Antony uses pathos to persuade them. Mark Antony says, “ My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it come back to me” (3.2. 106-107). This statement emphasizes how much Antony loved Caesar and the grief he is now feeling that his closest friend is dead.

After his murder Antony, fearing for his life sympathized with the conspirators, but he became determined to prove they were criminals. The great and “honourable” Brutus and Cassius, talk to the crowd of plebeians, to announce the death of Caesar and to justify the terrible crime. Antony gave Caesar 's funeral speech, was not involved in the murder, but he declared loyalty to the murderers, but he still remained loyal to Caesar.

There are two reasons why Antony gave this speech. The first was to get back at Brutus for murdering his beloved friend, and making him pay for it.
