“Just Listen” (Mind Tools, et al.)
Goals
● “Put your own thoughts aside.” (Beebe and Masterson 154)
● “Be there mentally, not only physically.” (Beebe and Masterson 154)
● “Make a conscious, mindful effort to listen.” (Beebe and Masterson 154)
● “Take adequate time to listen-don’t rush the speaker; be patient.” (Beebe and Masterson 154)
● “Be open-minded.” (Beebe and Masterson 154) The goal of this exercise is to build verbal and nonverbal communication skills as well as strengthening team members listening skills.
Group size
There will be groups of at least three people. The first member will be the speaker, the second member will be the listener and the third member will be the observer.

Try to envision what's going to happen. Make some predictions for me about what's going to happen. Develop plans for multiple possibilities, so that your team can roll with the punches if necessary.
Possible outcomes- the comments should not require any arguing, negativity or comments back. This should allow for open mindedness. We predict that arguing is not going to be an issue because with the directions stating that there is no feedback or voice of opinion from the other listener and observer to cause a debate about the topic. All of the different applications and components that were implemented can easily be observed and displayed in the project. My knowledge and understanding of my topic and global context have been drastically widened. The importance of giving every situation and obstacle in life your all, then placing that on a global scale is even more amazing. My knowledge of rhetorical appeal is greater than before and this will only benefit my communication skills, which goes a long way in our day an age. My self-management and brainstorming skills have been improved upon after this personal project.
What did you learn from the project that you did not already know? From this project, I leaned a variety of different things
Over the weekend, I went to Starbucks with a friend, and knowing that I would need to engage in mindful listening for my communication portfolio. I had taken the opportunity. Even though I did not let my friend know what I was aiming to do. One demonstrates mindful listening when they are careful and thoughtful, processing a high level of information in response to other’s message. This was the perfect moment to practice mindful listening because my friend was sharing his issues regarding other relationships.
Listening and caring skills according to John Savage offers specific and teachable listening skills for improving relationships among those who do ministry. The skills are taught through oral exercises and unfailingly helpful examples from actual congregational situations. Some of the skills include expression of feelings and emotions which includes the skill of direct expression of feeling, indirect expression of emotions and direct expression of feelings. Our feelings and emotions can be induced by many things from the external world. The more [one] is aware of the emotions and feelings the more you can determine how you will act or behave (John Savage 49, 50).
1. How do patients/consumers find Hear Today? Hear Today ("HP") primarily markets via the various advertising strategies i.e. contracting with corporations or insurance companies or national advertising methods as well as internet marketing strategies to effectively target Baby-Boomers and seniors who are in need of professional hearing health services and products. We also assist them specifically in researching hearing aids.

Without listening there would not be communication. Chaos would ensue. Think about that the next time you speak to someone and don’t pay attention, by virtue of listening shall always be important. Whenever one doesn’t believe they know how to listen follow these listening styles.

I found this activity extremely helpful. It made me conscious of my nonverbal cues as well as my overall listening abilities. Listening Activity
Should we have school uniforms? it’s hard to think that something as little as wearing school uniforms could help in how a student learns but if you think about it, it affects a lot of things. People think applying school uniforms restricts a students freedom of expression. However it is rather weak argument. Uniforms do not take away a students right.
During the two day observations, I had the opportunity to experience how Mrs. Carbone teaches listening, speaking, & pronunciation by incorporating different approaches. During my first observation, the class was a follow up class designed to promote listening skills and oral language development. Mrs. Carbone explained that the class
Is communication a natural gift, or is it something you must work on to become better? Active listening is an important part of communication. This topic has challenged me to become a better listener. To become a better with active listening there are five techniques: pay attention, show that your listening, provide feedback, defer judgement, and respond appropriately.
Reflection on the 5-Days Journey to Become a Better Listener Throughout the 5-days practice of active listening and basic attending skills in daily conversations, it was easiest for me to practice empathy. I found it easy to perceive the situation through others’ eyes and perspectives in order to capture the accurate meaning when I was nonjudgemental and listened attentively to others. As a result, I was able to develop empathic rapport in which I accurately sensed and understood others’ concerns as well as feelings as compared to when I conversed without empathy, allowing my presumptions to affect my interpretation of others’ meaning due to the need for others to agree with my worldview. Besides that, I was able to practice basic empathy, which is the second level of empathy where I paraphrased

How the skill could be useful in business: Listening should be used every day in business by not speaking, but opening ears and mind to what a boss, coworker, or the public is conveying.
