Because of their experience and knowledge. They would be able to select a candidate with a right attitude and a candidate that is willing to learn new things. I have been selected in the past to join in an interview for a new member of staff. It was an eye opening as I realized is not easy to just select any candidate but to select a candidate that is willing to learn and that can work as a team. During the interview, there were many questions that most of the candidate could not answer. It is vital that a lead adult is present in recruitment and selection because they may have some questions that may have raised from their experience and want to know if the potential new member can work under pressure or can work in a challenging environment. This document will only be shown by your healthcare worker and must not be shared with anyone else. Only the person who is going to receive treatment must give their consent and fully show that they understand the whole healthcare process. The individuals may include family members or friends for support and advice. Sometimes, in an emergency, family members or friends can help make this decision for the individual. According to the NHS, when it comes to a child, the parent, guardian, or carer can give their consent for a child that is under 18 years of age. On some occasions, if the child is fully able to understand the effects of their treatment will impact on their health, they may be able to give their consent (NHS, 2022). Hopefully, the lead adult care workers should provide information and advice and allow the individuals to ask as many questions as possible to understand fully what all the concerns are about their health. However, in an emergency, decisions must be made quickly, whereas, in not-so-urgent cases, you can have more time. Furthermore, if the individual decides not to go ahead with the treatment and they have signed the consent form, they still have the right to change their minds. All individuals have the right to have an interpreter should in case they may need one, and privacy and confidentiality should be always maintained 1.4 - Describe the lead adult care workers responsible for supporting and developing care workers As a lead adult care
In some cultures, family members make treatment decisions on behalf of their loved-ones. Provided the patient consents to this arrangement and is assured that any questions about his/her medical care will be answered, the physician may seek consent from a family member in lieu of the patient.”
Home Care Assistant/Aide Heath Care workers help patients that may be physically or mentally ill, injured or disabled. Home care workers can live with the patient, work on weekends or week days. This type of consent today is at most unfair, how is someone supposed to understand an endless amount of material that they know nothing about . Who is going to even read those 40 pages ? Most people will just sign and not go through the hassle of understanding , and the doctors should keep that in mind when asking the patient for permission . There are some that also say that the patient should understand and it’s their problem if they don’t. This point is easily unrealistic , because it is suggesting what basic knowledge of every person should have, which reveals that it’s more opinion than
Similarly, all clinicians need to gain consent from nearly every patient, either verbal or non-verbal, unless in an immediately life-threatening condition. To refuse consent, a patient has to have all information presented to them by the clinician including; the risks they may face, other alternatives to the initial treatment plan and likelihood of success (SCAS, 2016, 5.3). Consent given by a patient under unfair pressure from a friend/family member or clinician, is not considered consent as it is not the patient’s decision. If a valid consent has been given, then a patient is entitled to withdraw their consent at any time. If a patient lacks capacity to give consent, and has no nominated person with Lasting Powers of Attorney, then no one can give consent on their behalf (SCAS, 2016,
However, the process is certainly not perfect. Many patients do not fully understand what exactly it is they’re signing. Nonetheless, physicians must explain to patients to the best of their abilities. Informed consent is a vital process. Although most people are willing to help with research that will positively contribute to the future of medicine, a majority would be appalled to discover
With the type of service that I work for the way that consent is obtained is through communication with the individuals care manager or funder who will complete an individual assessment, gain consent to share information with our service/ staff and will then forward this on to our service. Once we have received the referral with consent we will then arrange a date for a full assessment which will either be a face to face or telephone assessment where we will then discuss with the individual about consent, why we require consent and who information will be shared with. We will also explain that there are different levels of consent such as partial consent, this will be used for information relating to emergencies or to update family members
The Health Care Consent Act (HCCA) sets out explicit rules and specifies when consent is required and who can give the consent when the client is incapable of doing so (College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), 2009). According to the HCCA (1996), there is no minimum age for providing or refusing consent in Ontario. A person is capable if he or she understands the information given that is relevant to making a decision concerning the treatment, and can appreciate the anticipated consequences of both accepting or declining a treatment. Informed consent must never be assumed. On the other side of the spectrum, informed refusal is the patient's right to deny any of the services recommended. From a legal standpoint, it is important to always document informed consent and refusal to avoid any legal
In the health and social care setting the health care professionals have a duty of care for vulnerable adults. In a way that you as the employee should always act in the best interest for everyone in the work setting including vulnerable adults, employees, employer and family members. In my job role I have a duty of care to protect vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect. Also treat everyone fairly with dignity and respect for example a resident has chosen not to participate in attending day centre, as support worker I respected their choice and offered an alternative activity which was more suited to them. 1.2 -Explain how duty of care relates to duty of candour
De Bord (2014) states that children do not possess the decision-making capacity to provide informed consent. By definition, consent is given for an intervention for oneself; therefore parents are only providing informed permission or authorization (De Bord, 2014). In working with children, I am dealing more with assent. This assent takes many forms depending on the individual child’s developmental and/or cognitive level. This leads to two other elements of informed consent, understanding and disclosure.
1. Duty of care in adult and social care means, that I have a duty of care to everyone in the care home receiving care. I should promote their well-being and make sure that no harm, abuse or injury comes to them. Being in a care home, I also have a duty of care to my colleagues, to make sure they are not subjected to harm, abuse or injury. Duty of care is in our job description, once we signed up to be a support worker, team leader, a manager or any other role within the care home, it is a legal requirement.
It is very important in your job role as health care assistant to know all the information about the individual take for example they wont know there children as adults they would only know them as children and even though there husband has died they still will think they are alive. You might get upset or frustrated in trying to explain to them there children are all grown up and that there husband died along time ago you have to patient it is important to use the right tone of and to role play along with service user in order to make them feel comfortable or remind them of what day and year .Sometimes it can be very difficult to get threw to an individual who has dementia. It is very important to always smile using eye contact greet them good morning how are you today the weather is really sunny
Healthcare professionals must work on the assumption that every patient has the capacity to make decisions about their care, and to decide whether to agree to, or refuse, an examination or treatment. However, in the case that patients are deemed to be lacking capacity the Mental Capacity Act (2005), The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act (2000) legislations must be followed (General Medical Council, 2008). Gaining consent before providing care or treatment to any patient is very important because patient requires
Patients have a right to complain about the doctor's refusal to the Management. Provision of Treatment requires patient’s choice and informed consent. Even if a patient has signed a general consent clause, the patient can still refuse medical treatment or procedures. However, in exceptional or emergency situations a doctor may be legally justified in performing surgery or providing treatment without the patient's consent. The patient should be competent and capable of making such a decision to give a consent.
