Lessons Learned From The Leader's Club

To Lead Myself In the Third Chapter of Greg Hastings’s book Leadership Lessons from West Point – “You Must Lead Yourself First” he talks about three lessons he learnt in leadership during his time as a cadet – each at a different stage in his Cadet career. His first story talks about the time he got hours for participating in a spirit mission launched by an upperclassman in his company and how it taught him to lead himself while also following the lead of others.

I consecutively display leadership skills daily in practice and while performing. For example, when one of my teammates is struggling or not grasping the concept, I take it into my hands to work with them vigorously until they achieve their full potential. In like manner, I motivate my cheer sisters when they are down and reassure the team, as a whole, to walk in the spirit of excellence. To include, I feel that a leader is not someone who stands in front and dictates their group, but rather stands right next to their followers and goes through the battles with them. Additionally, I exemplify a respectful young lady in and out of uniform because I have noticed the little girls idolizing me and mimicking every move I make.

I have shown leadership by being a Sunday School assistant at Reading United Methodist Church. I worked with the younger kids and taught them various life lessons. I also practiced my leadership by being an assistant for the kindergarteners during the K-Ball program. I taught them the basics of basketball and other lessons they will be able to apply in their futures. I am hoping to further develop my leadership skills during the next two years of high school, which will help me lead others more successfully.

The Breakfast Club   The breakfast club is a famous teen film directed by John Hughes. The Breakfast Club provides many concepts of adolescent struggles like identity issues, peer pressure, stereotypes, family relationships. The storyline follows five high school students from different social status meeting at their school’s library for Saturday detention. The film depicts Claire as the princess, Andrew as the jock, Brian as the brain, Allison as the basket case and Bender as the criminal. However, later in the film, they realize that they are more than what society portrays them and that they have more in common than they thought.

I have attended several leadership camps and seminars, but there is always room for improvement in regards to leadership abilities. Having a higher leadership role than what I already have will significantly improve my knowledge of leadership and better refine the leadership skills that I already have. There are a lot of

Acquiring leadership skills along with a strong character and the sense to serve others is vital. A leader should be resourceful, dependable, selfless, and a good problem solver. I have led in many ways- inside and outside of school. Last year as a tenth grader, I was class secretary for Class Council.

This includes teaching children from kindergarten to 6th graders to learn how to hit the ball, to proper have a better form, and to have fun during the camp. This leadership inspire me to become compassion and help people grow to learn new things. Another demonstration of leadership is when I join a tennis team in high school. To me, leadership during tennis is to know your team and yourself better because it can set the team to become successful. This also means helping other achieve the impossible.

I believe that I am capable of both types of leadership. Most of my experience being a leader comes from sports. I currently play football and basketball. In football, I have always been a quarterback, which means I have always been the vocal leader of my team. As a quarterback, it is my duty to make sure that everyone is in the right place and knows their role in every play.

I have developed leadership qualities when my Tae Kwon Do coach trusted me to lead our team during national championships. This has led me to then hold various leadership positions in undergraduate and dental school clubs. Moreover, my critical thinking abilities have excelled from being a mathematics and physics tutor. Tutoring has always challenged me to think outside the box in complicated problems, and this would allow me to use my creative skills when facing complex cases in my field. Persistence is another key element that is crucial in success.

Another example of me being a leader is i am good with people, i can also make friends easily so when people can trust me to help them with things and be a leader. The last characteristic we share is that we are both outcasts. One way i'm an outcast is how i don't follow the crowd, i also don't do a lot of things most people do. I don't wear clothing that is popular because that doesn't really matter to me. I don't like popular music either.

Throughout my entire life I have been constantly learning and improving a wide range of personal and social leadership skills, especially in these most recent few years of middle school and high school. These skills have not only helped me to get where I am today, but have also become a huge influence for my personality and overall perception of the world around me. These skills have helped me to build relationships, gain experience and opportunities, improve my personal outlook, and change my entire approach to everything I do in a positive way. But I know it does not stop there. It is never truly possible to fully possess a leadership skill in its entirety.

I have been blessed with many great opportunities in the past three years to serve and increase my leadership skills. I have played soccer for my high school, and was voted Team Captain of the varsity team by my teammates. I absolutely loved growing closer to each one of those girls, and being an example to them both on and off of the field. In high school, I have balanced my membership in eight different clubs.

Being organised was vital as I had to balance my education with weekly volunteering. I gained leadership skills when I led the children in activities such as warm up exercises. What particularly stood out for me was a child who had behavioural
