Imagine living in a country that lacked basic freedoms where the government had complete control, and individuals had no say. Luckily, Americans have the privilege of living in a country where basic rights are written in the foundation of the country. The Declaration of Independence states these basic freedoms that Americans are granted within their citizenship. Even though The Declaration of Independence promises us life, I believe that the death penalty should be allowed in certain cases. On the other hand, I believe that the draft should not be allowed in the United States. I think that in order to punish the perpetrator their life must end. The government grants us the right to life, just as they can take away this right if they feel that it is just. I also think that in order for the family of the victim to get full closure, the perpetrator must completely out of their world. I think that it would be hard to explain to the family of the victim that their murdered deserves to live, when their loved one had to tragically die. The Declaration of Independence states “...that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This quote explains how if someone infringes on the rights of others, such as the right to life, their right to life should also be taken away. I also think that the death penalty sends a message to the world that the crime is not tolerated in any circumstances, and full punishment will be given if a horrible crime is committed. These crimes could include rape or murder. I also believe that if the death penalty should be allowed if it is administered fair and humane way. For example, I think that the electric chair or the firing quad should never be allowed, however, I think lethal injection is a fair way to administer their death
