Examples of alcohol related accidents are:

• Drunk driving.
• Alcohol increases accidents at home, work and of fires.

Many studies have documented high rates of relapse upto 65-80 percent in the first year of treatment among substance dependents(Vyas and Ahuja 2008).It is a perplexing situation among the substance abusers. Eventhough there are dramatic advancements in the treatment modalities, client compliance is generally poor and response to a drug or alcoholic use is a common occurrence (Kumar, 2014). All the signs of an alcoholic is a cause by depending on alcohol. Health issues can present with a long term of alcohol abuse, liver disease, cardiovascular, pancreatitis, cancer, etc. Families and friends are affected as well, and advice is not considered or taken when in denial. Facing sobriety is not easy for most people to handle and I feel help is needed, and finding the proper treatment can be challenging for an alcoholic. Mrs. C. More than 190,000 people under the age of 21 visited an emergency room for alcohol related reasons in 2008 alone. Alcohol related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and non-fatally injure someone every two minutes. That’s a lot of people gone because they wanted to go out and party and not think about the consequences ahead. Once a person takes a drink of either their beer, glass of wine, or a shot of hard liquor, the alcohol enters the blood stream at fast pace. Alcohol is known as a depressant because “it slows the function of the central nervous system and alters a person’s perception, emotion, and movement; vision and hearing” (Responsible party). This controlled substance has a negative connotation for its lack of responsibility. For example, you are at a party and you where the designated driver, but you end up taking a couple of shots with your buddies just so that you loosen up. Alcohol is removed from ones blood system through the process of oxidation, this process primarily happens in the liver, “…A healthy liver oxidizes pure ethanol at the rate of about 1/4 to 1/3 of an ounce per hour, which is less than 1 ounce of hard liquor…”
To put it quite simply, alcohol can have a plethora of negative effects on the body. Motor skills can be seriously impaired under the influence of alcohol. Which is why drinking and driving is illegal, as a driver’s physical and mental focus needs to be on driving for the safety of him or her self and others. This is also a reason to not drink, because people are far more likely to hurt themselves when they are impaired physically. According to the CDC fact sheet regarding the legal drinking age, states that increased the legal drinking age to 21 saw a 16% median decline in total motor vehicle crashes.
