A living legend, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., known as “Lil Wayne”, was born on September 27, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Wayne grew up in a town called Hollygrove, one of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans(Wikipedia.com). Wayne has been creating music since he was a child, he started rapping at the age of eight and he joined Cash Money Records at just nine years old. Wayne met Bryan and Slim Williams, founders of Cash Money Records, who gave him their business card and Wayne left voicemails of himself freestyling for them to listen to(Wikipedia.com). Being the young, ambitious rapper he was he never stopped contacting them and finally, he became apart of Cash Money Records and joined the group The Hot Boys.

Many people don’t know a few things about young artists from Louisiana. I’m here to tell you about some facts about an artist from Louisiana. The artists I’m about to tell you about have a big history some of them good and some of them is bad.

Shawn Corey Carter, better known as Jay-Z, was born December 4, 1969, in New York City. Jay-Z grew up in the housing projects with his mother and sibling in a tough environment. He was able to succeed in the music industry besides being abandoned by his father, never graduating from high school, and selling drugs in the streets. Today he is known as one the most financially successful hip-hop artist and entrepreneurs in America. He has sold millions of albums worldwide, holds the record for most number one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200, and has won 17 Grammys for his musical work.

Lodz Ghetto The Holocaust killed very many Jews. The Lodz Ghetto is a place where jews and many other races of people lived. The Lodz Ghetto is where some Jews lived during the Holocaust. The lodz ghetto is located in Lodz Poland.

The song explains how Pos’s brother was a very curious person, and that was how he got exposed to crack. In the film, La Bamba, director Luis Valdez kept some events from Ritchie Valens life the same, but changed the seriousness of his relationships in order to add drama and to add more poignant emotions.

Jay- Z was born in 1968 and raised by a single mom in Brooklyn's Marcy housing projects. Growing up during a time when coloreds sat away from the whites, the possibility of making it out of the projects was a slim to none chance.

He found friends and began to blossom and this is where his journey began. Growing up cedric has always been around unwanted circumstances. Such as the thugs, gangbangers and anyone that was typically a threat or the opposite of what Cedric’s mother wanted him to be. Making it clear that, “Reaching out to any fellow ghetto kids is an act he put in the same category as doing drugs.” (18).

It wasn’t your traditional east coast 95 bmp boom bap and I think that is why so many people were intrigued by it. It’s a scary lo-fi bass boosted album that creates this aesthetic of being in the mind of a drug induced serial killer. The lyrics again display dark subject matter such as violence, drugs, and and almost unsettling realistic depiction of what it is like to live in the gang infested south. Popular trap music today takes a lot of its influence specifically from this album.

Concrete Today’s age of rap artist try to dethrone another rappers, other rappers make claims and they backed that claim by what they can deliver. Schoolboy Q’s Interscope debut Oxymoron, specializes in hairpin turns from cautionary street tales to remorse reflection. In one of his hit single Break The Bank he says “I spit harder than concrete surprised I still got teeth…” Q is making a statement in the world of rap. Quincy or better known by his stage name Schoolboy Q makes a bold statement. His ability to spit a verse is so hard that it is being comparable to concrete which can’t happen literally.

The song “Big Brother” talks about the government not caring about the lower class citizens only when it is Election Day by getting their vote. The poor in the inner city feel unworthy of not having equal rights as American citizens. “My name is nobody” (line 7). The abuse of power not only reveal in “Big Brother” it also talks about it in “Village Ghetto Land” is a village about the citizens feel uneasy in a dangerous place that is not safe “See people lock their doors” (line 5). The citizens fear of violence and not able to protect theirselves from life or death situations of vandalism and medical attention.

The narrator described the very stereotypical gang members in Harlem being “filled with rage” and “popping off needles every time they went to the head” (Baldwin 123). Lastly, the change in the author's tone was very evident. The readers could notice when the narrator was talking about life in Harlem or Sonny’s drug abuse because it had a very bitter and cold tone. However, when Sonny was talking about his music the tone was hopeful and positive. Baldwin wanted to show that music was the one thing helping with Sonny’s pain.

Freestyle rap is spontaneous, created on the spur of the moment with nothing scripted in advance. Literary devices, such as rhymes, metaphors and similes will be included in the best freestyle rap, as well as smooth delivery and allusions to the present surroundings and circumstances. Great rappers have great freestyling skills. In freestyling, a rapper must think on his or her feet and impress the audience with his/her verbal ability.
