4. Literary Devices Imagery is found amongst the whole novel, it helps the readers to visualize what is happening from the characters point of view. When Lina had to draw a man from a photograph, she felt that her “skin prickled at the sight of [the commander]” when he was standing over her (Sepetys 174). This allows us to feel how Lina felt while having to draw for the NVKD.

In the book An Invisible Thread, the author often provides examples of parents that have a poor quality of parenting. First there is Laura’s father Nunziato Carino, who’s a bartender. After he is done with his shift, he would often come home drunk and yell at his son, Frank who is Five. Frank will quickly hide under his bed sheet as his father dammed his name again and again. This happened frequently and every one would hide in their rooms as unfortunate Frank takes his father’s heavy word beating each night.

Literature is frequently comprehended by most people as a mass of writings. In particular, it refers to those reckoned to have the aptitude of being inventive and rational, or which deploy languages which departed from the common usage. Global literature, on the other hand, has two different definitions where the first one explains it as the summation of all literatures of the world, including personal and nationalized work. The second definition is, global literature consists of the world’s classics, or the most sought after works that are read across time, ethnic and language borders in which they were produced and become the intercontinental patrimony of civilization. A lot of Holocaust survivors are vegetarians or vegans because they were deprived of meat and any other food with nutritional value. They chose to live their post-holocaust life this way because of their experiences and the memories that they will always carry. The book Maus written by Art Spiegelman is about Art writing about Vladek's (his father's) experiences through the holocaust. Art emphasizes all of the hardships he went through and how the memories have affected him in the present. The theme the past can affect the present is represented through Vladek not hiring anyone to do work for him, Vladek always making Art finish his food, and Vladek's glass eye.

The tone of the story is important in making the story sound like it is being to through the eyes of an eleven year old girl, such phrases like “pennies rattling in a band-aid box” and “my whole head hurts like when you drink milk too fast.” All these are certain phrases that would be used in an eleven year old's life, bandaids for the bumps and scrapes, and the milk that your parents would make you drink. That is the tone Eleven sets, a young girl telling us her humiliating story while she is still a child. Sandra Cisneros does an excellent job at using literary devices to characterize Rachel in “Eleven”. By using imagery, simile, and tone we can see that Rachel is a empathetic, bashful, wise, but still naive in her own ways.

In the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda gives a really good example of character development throughout the story. Melinda just starts her freshman year at high school. Over the summer her and her friends went to a party and Melinda gets raped by a boy named Andy Evans and ends up calling the police, she didn't tell anyone why she called the police, causing her friends and everyone at the party to reject her. Melinda’s only friend is a new girl named heather. Melinda gets depressed and starts expressing her pain through stuff like biting her lips and her nails, and not talking.

Sylvia Mendez, A piece of history forgotten, an ennoble human being who uplifted the loathsome cruelty of segregation in public schools. In 1943, students of mexican descent we enrolled in different schools from the caucasian students. Sylvia and her siblings were denied to go to the caucasian school. The Mendez family started Fighting for equal rights and education ,so that every mexican child could attend the caucasian schools. Sylvia created a landmark to our community and hope to all of us to stop the wicked racism world living among us.

Jing-Mei’s mother had left China to come to America after losing her family, and had been raising Jing-Mei in America with her second husband. Despite her mother’s grand hopes for Jing-Mei to become successful in America by becoming a child prodigy, Jing-Mei did not share the same opinions.

What core elements define the essence of humanity? In Mandel’s novel, one is compelled to reconsider the defining characteristics of humanity. Mandel structures the plot of Station Eleven around the main character Arthur Leander’s life. Throughout the novel, Mandel explores a series of sub character’s perspectives of the flu pandemic and each of their roles in the post-apocalyptic world it creates, encouraging the reader to delve into the relationships between humanity and art. Book reviewer Justine Jordan from The Guardian summarizes the book perfectly by claiming that “Station Eleven is not so much about [an] apocalypse as about memory and loss, nostalgia, and yearning” (Jordan, par. 5).

Art Spiegelman wrote a graphic novel called Maus 1, which is basically about his dad's life during the holocaust. He uses a literary technique called a frame story to show how the story was told to him from his dad. Sometimes when Vladek (Arts father) shares his story he rides on a stationary bike. The first time readers are aware of this is on page 12, Vladek tells Art that it's good for his heart to pedal. On the whole page Vladek on the bike becomes the reader's focal point.

In the short story “Eleven”, Sandra Cisneros manages to convey a powerful message about growing up from the perspective of an eleven year old. The story starts out with Rachel, the protagonist, who is turning eleven today. It starts out with her at school while she's in math class.
