A murder case. Two victims. One axe. 42 chops. One murderer. Lizzie Andrew Borden. The book The Borden Murders and the Trial of the Century is an immersive crime case story about the murder of Andrew Borden and Sarah Borden, Lizzie's parents. In this book, Sarah Miller took us on a ride through the cold case of Lizzie Borden. The book is split into 3 sections to further help us differentiate the story. Starting with the first section introduced the characters and the climax. We witness each murder being discovered in detail, First her stepmother, then her father. We see the clues being pieced together one by one, the suspect list growing and shrinking and containing different names in each chapter, but one was constant Lizzie Borden. She constantly used examples of pathos (emotion) and logos(logic) to cause the reader to feel an emotional connection to the main character and want her to win her case and be proven innocent, but then evidence against her shows up and makes our heads spin with inciting prolepsis. Some quotes seem to be pure logic such as, “Whether she was guilty or innocent, Lizzie Borden’s inquest testimony was nothing short of catastrophic. Her answers appear so evasive, contradictory, and obstinate, it’s hard to imagine anyone attempting to prove his or her evidence more ineffectively.”, (pg124), which makes us think that she was guilty of the crime by telling us that she did terribly in her trial. Despite this, however, this passage also makes us feel bad for Lizzie because throughout the story we had been conditioned, in a way, to be on Lizzie's side. The quote has an underlying idea that nobody looked deep enough into it and even if she was just nervous or in shock, she wouldn't get any redemption for her actions. This plays with our emotions and makes the reader want to stand up for Lizzie and believe her. Sarah's play on her uses of logos and pathos makes the book feel like we are solving the crime, which just makes her writing 100x
The possible suspects would be Lizzie Borden, Bridget (the maid), Emma (Lizzie’s older sister), John Morse (guest), and other people (enemies). The maid, Bridget rested in her bed after having washed the outside windows. During that, the murder happen when the maid was in the house. It might be possible that she did it because she was in the house and might have kill
The break-ins are a major clue for Lizzie’s innocence. In the trial, the police never found an evident weapon. Yes, they found many axes around, but none of them had any traces of blood. They searched long and hard and found nothing.
Lizzie Borden: The Falsely Acussed Axe Murdered - Persassive Manuscript (Attention-Getting Device) “Maggie, Maggie come quick father is dead, somebody killed him”, as Andrew Borden lays there, covered in blood from 11 hits to the head with an axe. (Relate to Adience) Murder Mysteries are very common inCinimaa, but this drama-filled case was far from scripted. (Thesis Statement) Lizzie Borden is an accused murderer who was wrongfully accused of murdering Andrew and Abby Borden.
When blood dries… it turns brown. For sure this sounds a little queasy that she would burn the dress with brown stains on them and not throw it away. As can be seen she for sure wanted all evidence to be permanently gone. Another example of evidence about Lizzie being guilty is two days prior to the murder she was found buying prussic acid (Gustafson, [45]). If you are not familiar in what that is, it is a deadly poison.
During this time they were trying to get evidence that Lizzie was the one to commit the crime. Unfortunately they were unable to find enough proof that Lizzie was the one to do it. So on June 20 she was found not guilty and acquitted for the murder of her father and
I read through all the witness testimonies and Lizzie Borden is guilty let me tell you why. All these testimonies mentioned something that made her look guilty. here’s why, she changed the story way too much, Lizzie Borden burned a really big piece of evidence, she also could have been jealous of her stepmother because her father bought her stepmother Abby Borden a house. Lizzie Borden seems to change her answers a lot in the very last document. Let me explain to you why she is guilty.
I had read an article that said the same week that lizzie was in trial because she was one of the suspected murders she had burned the dress that she wore that day her parents had died and it was covered in blood so to me that sounded like she was trying to hide something. Which at this time lizzie was not the most popular people in town especially to the people that knew her. I’ve also took into account that she maybe had evidence on her of she was holding her parents but the whole thing just seems kinda fishy. Which everyone in the community thought it was lizzie just of how she normally acts. The weapon that who ever the killer was had killed the parents with an axe
So the confused answers that she gave may not have been because she was guilty, but because she was in shock. Although police at the time were to aware of this so when she was not able to give a convincing story and her stories continued to change, Lizzie became the prime suspect in her parents murder. Due to the fact that she could not keep her story straight and her distressed state led to her arrest. Two days after she was questioned about the murders, Police Chief Hilliard arrested Lizzie. The next day she pleaded “Not Guilty” to her charges and then was transported to a rail car to be taking to the jail in Taunton, which is eight miles from her hometown.
(Guided notes) Ten months after the murder of Andrew and Abby Borden, another axe murder happened in Fall River. The similarities between these two cases are almost startling, the murders happened around the same time of day, no one saw or heard anything, and the wounds were almost identical in placement and number. However, during this murder, Lizzie was in jail so there was no possible way for her to have been the murderer in that case. The fact that two almost identical murderers happened in the same town only months apart couldn’t simply be a
First of all, Lizzie Borden is guilty of committing murder because of her strange testimony and alibi. Not only did Lizzie give an odd testimony, but her alibi doesn’t exactly make her seem innocent. According to Source #2, “At the time of her stepmother’s murder (around 9:30 A.M.), household
Andrew and Abby Borden are found dead in their home, in Fall River, Massachusetts on August 4, 1892. The most likely suspect is their daughter, Lizzie; however many factors came into play to clear her from a guilty verdict. Lizzie Borden, a thirty-two year old woman, is accused of the murders of her father and stepmother. An ax found in the Borden family’s basement, is the perceived murder weapon. However, the extensive amount of blows to the heads of the victims is unlikely to have been carried out by this small, young woman.
The largest trial upon doing so comes in the form of convincing everyone of the “true” events that took place that night. The trail of deceit she creates entangles almost everyone, maybe even herself. Mary rebuts the argument of her guiltiness by overwhelming others with her supposed “innocence”, yet Mary’s true, dark colors, that of a psychopath,
Lizzie had been accused of other crimes but was never caught, so maybe she thought she could have a good enough cover up story not to be caught again. Other people might say, “Lizzie would never actually act on any of her thoughts just like me and you wouldn’t either.” In paragraph 12 of “Fourteen Reasons to Believe Lizzie Murdered Her Parents” it states, “In 1891, cash and jewelry were stolen from the master bedroom in the Borden home. It was an open secret that Lizzie was suspected as having been a thief.” If Lizzie Borden didn’t have enough respect for her parents that she would steal money and precious jewelry why would she have any respect for them at all.
There were lots of loose ends and unsolved questions. I am here to convince you that Lizzie did not do it and, that she is innocent. Firstly, imagine being accused of killing your parents. How would that make you feel?
Agatha Christie’s cherished novel Murder of Roger Ackroyd is a classic mystery which captures the hearts of readers. In this story, Dr. Sheppard assists detective Hercule Poirot as he deciphers clues in order to find out who killed Roger Ackroyd. Christie integrates plot, motifs, and tone into this story to captivate readers all around the world. First, Christie’s use of plot creates a logical series of events for the story to center around and connects the events; moreover, plot keeps exasperated readers from giving up on this novel due to lack of understanding. For instance, “Mrs. Ferrars died on the night of the 16th-17th September” (1).
